Hey lady, I know you're in HR, so I was hoping you could help me out a bit.
This is actually for my husband. I want to help him improve/update his resume.
First, he's been working as a mall security guard since August 2007, and just here in February he's been promoted to a supervisor. How should that be shown? Should it be like a separate job, since it has different responsibilities?
I'm just starting to work on this. I'm sure I could find answers online, but I'd prefer getting advice from a professional with real input. I'm sick of him applying and not getting any response. So all the help the better!
Re: Mrs. U, resume help
Hi Danielle,
Sure thing! There are many different ways to list a promotion, but the more straight forward approach is the best in my opinion. That way the person reviewing it doesn't get confused or have to read between the lines...if a resume is confusing it's easy to be put to the side.
So, I'd list the company and the total timeframe he's been there, and then list each role as a subline underneath.
Here is an example:
_____________________________
XXX Mall, City, Sate August 2007 to Present
Responsible for ??(list duties & responsibilities of his current supervisory role)
Responsible for.......(list past duties & responsibilities as a Security guard)
______________________________
I googled it and found this job description online - http://pagerankstudio.com/Blog/2010/07/security-officer-shopping-centermall-job-description-careers-salary-employment-definition-education-and-training-requirements/
May or may not be in line with your hubby's duties, but it may help some with wording.
Hope that helps...and good luck to hubby!!!
