Another teacher probably out of work... :(

75% chance that my job will be cut do to budget restrictions.  Gotta love budget short falls in education.  I'm even a specialized teacher...ELL and Math certified.  I'm the only one in the district.  But, I only have 2 years experience.

Re: Another teacher probably out of work... :(

  • That stinks - I'm so sorry. I'm hoping that you fall into the 25% chance and get to keep your position!
  • Oh, I'm so sorry! What we are doing to our teachers and our schools is just tragic.

Teachers should be getting raises not being laid off.

  • That sucks, I'm sorry :(  When will you find out one way or the other?

  • I'm sorry, that sucks!  Hope it works out for the best!
  • ohhh A... that stinks,Im sorry. Its heart breaking what is happening to the students and the teachers because of budgets.  DH is trying to stay optimistic, but is seriously looking in all school districts around the state. Lots of prayers for you girl!

  • i'm thinking we'll be okay, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed.  we haven't really heard anything yet, though.  dh thinks his job will be safe because of other cuts that are happening in his department.  i'm in danger, but ultimately, i think i will be okay.  at least for now.  hopefully, the state will be in a better position financially when we have to do this all over again.

bright side: no one really knows anything for sure right now as far as the final budget is concerned.  it very well may not be as bad as the media is reporting when all is said and done.  (it's going to be bad, but possibly not AS bad.)  don't give up hope yet!

  • Fingers crossed for you! I hope it works out in your favor.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Oh no!  I certainly hope that doesn't happen.  Our district is looking at performance over seniority so maybe yours will, too.  They also told us that even if they do let some people go in April, by June the budget could look better so they may rehire people.

I am still on a probationary contract since this is my second year in this district.  That makes me nervous, too.  Is that the case with you?  If, by some chance, you have a two year contract you should be safe.

(Sorry, I know you probably already know those things...just trying to think of some positives.)

  • I'm sorry about your job. Hopefully the budget isn't as bad as they think it will be. This whole subject makes me so upset. I think education is the last place cuts should be made. I always hear about this "Rainy Day fund" the state of Texas has. I think we have some thunderstorms out there.
