Can we talk about travel?

What trips or weekend getaways are you planning for this year?

Re: Can we talk about travel?

  • DH & I are going up to WA the last weekend in April. We also have a cabin in Tahoe, and hope to go a bunch this summer. Nothing else really planned though even though in a perfect world, we would be going to Mexico without the kids.

  • So far we have trip planned to Oklahoma in July for our car club's national meet. I hope we try to take a few weekend trips to Tahoe and Cambria as well, but it depends on DH's schedule. We will probably go to Hot August Nights in Reno as well.

  • Nothing is really planned except going to So Cal over my Spring Break to look at areas to move to. I'm also determined to make it to Big Sur before we leave Nor Cal this summer.
  • J and I are planning to go camping in Big Sur with his buddies and their families in July/August with the baby. I was kind of apprehensive at first, but then I thought "what the heck, why not".
  • I think I'm going to Dubai(!!!)... and maybe Karachi... but no one (including anyone in my dh's family) wants me to go, but I really want to see where my dh's fam came from, and it's only 2 hours away from Dubai. Maybe a day trip to Karachi - that doesn't sound too scary, does it? Yikes, I don't think I'll be telling my mom about these plans.

You wouldn't be going alone would you?
  • We're considering driving Route 1 at least part of the way to LA. sometime in the summer. My cousin is also pregnant so we're thinking about going there for Christmas after the baby is born. Other than that, nothing else really until our anniversary next year when we're planning on going to Hawaii.
  • I'm going to San Diego for a few days to visit my mom, but otherwise: nothing and nada! Since we are TTC, I'm trying to save as many vacation/sick days as I can and work as much as possible. Le sigh.

  • DH has a trip he's hoping to take with some friends to Mexico (nerds looking for snakes and lizards) in April.

I'm probably going to go down to Orange County for a weekend sometime this spring to visit my best friend.

I'd like to take a small trip somewhere for his birthday in July or my birthday in August but haven't thought it through much yet. Maybe Big Sur? Or maybe we'll go back to the Trinities.

  • A babymoon someplace pretty local - ideally we want to go to Hawaii, but DH wont be eligible (I think) for PFL when LO comes b/c he wont have been at his job for a year so he'll be using vacation, which means no hawaii - he wouldn't let me go on my own. So probably Santa Barbara or north for a few days.

Chicago at the end of August for a wedding if LO isn't too late.

Maybe one other trip at Thanksgiving if DH gets the week off like he did this year - we should know by the end of the summer and I'll still be on leave so then we might do something like hawaii.

But if we buy a house those all might be out the window b/c our expenses will likely double or triple.

  • We're going to Kauai for just over 2 weeks in May. We'll probably take 1-3 trips to So Cal. We'll hopefully visit Tahoe for a weekend at the end of the year/winter. And, late in the year, we'll likely take a trip to scope out potential places DH may be stationed next, to help us determine our picks.

No, 6 of us are going to Dubai, and then my dh, sil, mil, and I guess my nephew have to go to Karachi to sign some paperwork for some property they want to sell. I have too much adventure in my heart to not go... but I'd make it a quick trip.

  • We don't have much planned this year other than CA in May for a wedding, I'm deciding if I can come out for the weekend in April for the wedding shower. T is leaving for Vegas in a few weeks for his boy trip and I may go to Maine for a girls weekend.
  • There is a possibility of Hawaii in April, a mass emailed was sent out a while ago by MIL saying they were going to rent some condos or something and everybody just had to pay for airfare. Depends if his family is still going and if I feel up to taking more unpaid time off from work. We orginally wanted to go visit SIL in Maryland but tickets are way too much money so we might just meet BIL (who lives in NY) in Austin, TX. DH has a friend there we can stay with as does BIL so it just came up as an option today. DH really wants to go down to L.A. for a few days and hang out this summer, his aunt is there to stay with. Other than that probably Tahoe a few times since MIL gets us free rooms and concert tickets at Harveys :)

It's nice knowing people who live all over because hotel rooms can be so expensive for a long trip.

  • I'm going back to Boston for a week in March for my Spring Break. (DH will come for just a few days)  Once I finish/graduate grad school in June, we're going to either Cabo or Hawaii (probably Maui) with friends!  I hope to get a weekend in San Diego-might run the SD Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon in early June, just before graduation!

    Yes

This is where most of our trips will be this year. My BFF is getting married and I'll have a shower there so that's 3 trips alone. Then there's 4th of July, holidays, etc.

Depending on what is going on in the fall we may try to go back to Switzerland so H's Grandparents and family there can meet the LO in September. We shall see!

This is one of the biggest hurdles with travel for us. We do know people in lots of places but with DH in a wheelchair we rarely can stay in people's houses. Usually their bedrooms are too small or the hallway is too narrow or has too many turns. Then there's the bathrooms which he usually cannot get into. So we always end up staying in hotels (and finding one that's accessible is a challenge, too). This is why we don't travel as much as I'd like to.
  • Since our 5th anniversary is this year, I'm really hoping to go back to Montreal, where we went for our HM. If we can go, it would be in mid-August. And we'll be going to Oregon in June for my BFF's wedding, but probably just for a long weekend. I'm trying to plant the seeds for a trip to Chile next winter or the following one too.

  • We might go to the coast a couple of times (probably day trips) and we might go to San Francisco in the spring/early summer for a Giants' game. We will also head down to LA a few times to visit the in-laws. H and I might try to plan a road trip to Utah to visit SIL but we'll see.

  • We've planned to go to Cisco Grove area for the long weekend, but now that it's raining, I hope we'll be able to have fun still.

We saw a show on TV about a Japanese garden in Hanford, CA and a local ice cream store with this banana split:

You could maybe go to Yosemite on the way down, if that interests you.

Yes, we could do that too :)
