I noticed in yesterday's poll that NeptoonGrl and sreihing had both named their first cars. I named my first car Ricky. He was named after a guy on my brother's baseball team Ricky Havlik (the baseball announcer pronounced his last name have-a-lick, which I though was hilarious).
So, I'm curious, has anyone else named any of their vehicles? If so, how did you decide on the name?
Re: Naming cars
When my car belonged to my parent's it was the "silver bullet" because their other (much larger) vehicle is "The Keg", so we went with the beer theme.
Derek's first car was Eunice because it was a "grandma" car ('97 Intrepid).
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
My Jeep was a HE... and I didn't refer to him by name often, but I always thought he was a Christopher or Jeffrey... something preppy-ish. (not sure why i thought a grand cherokee was preppy)...
My honda accord now I called the Silver Bullet/Cory when I bought it, but haven't thought about that in years until now. funny.

My current car is a red mini cooper convertible with black racing stripes. (love)
It's name is Jude, as in the Beatles song "Hey Jude." I wanted something British, and cute. I also like when I walk out to it I think in my head hey Jude.

My father was a manager at a car dealership when I was growing up, so I had to learn early not to get attached. When I was 5 or 6 we had a black and grey van (I don't remember what kind of car it was). We called it Crow. On the day my dad sold it, I cried because it seemed wrong to sell a car that had a name and was part of our family. My dad told me I better get used to it, because that is what you do with cars, you buy them and then you sell them...don't get attached. I never named a car again.

Oh yes, all of my cars have had names.
My first was a 1988 Pontiac called Batmobile. That came about because I used to drive 3 friends home from school every day and when we were leaving school to head to the car, my friend would always say, "To the Batmobile!" It stuck.
Next was a red 1997 Chevy Cavalier. I named it Weasley, because it was red.
After that, a 1998 Honda Civic. I named it Ginny because it was red and smaller than Weasley.
Finally, a VW Jetta named Loretta. Her sister was my best friend's Corolla, named Lola.

Well that was a crazy couple of years.

My sister and I name other things as well. We named an old telephone and my brother's man-parts (my brother was not happy about this).
The black ramcharger I had was nicknamed beast. I didn't name it, my dad and his friends did because they were amused by a 100lb, 15 year old driving it, as it didn't have power steering.
My current truck is lime green, his name started out as kermit, but quickly just became froggy. Even DH calls him that now.
edit: for spelling
Yep. My car is called Bella.
This is Bella:
She's called Bella because yes, I am a Twihoor. And because she's pretty.
my to-read shelf:
34/150
My Lebaron was named George. No reason why, just George. My friends called him the Banana-mobile.
The truck we have now is Earl but he goes mainly by Optimus Prime.
My Explorer (or rather the Exploder) goes by Ratchet or sometimes Dora. (Ya know, like Dora the Explorer)
this is Bubbles

I've named them all.
1993 black Ford Probe - Maximillion
1994 purple Pontiac grand am - The Barney mobile, later the Barnes mobile for DH
2001 white chevy monte carlo - Monty...obviously
2004 white chevy impala - Izzy
2008 black Dodge Avenger - Rascal
2011 GMC Terrain - not quite named yet.
Yes, I've had a lot of cars. I really wish it was by choice, but I tend to beat on them a bit.
For me, the naming tradition started when I was in HS. I shared a car with my dad, and he had this really huge black sedan that always had tires with a bit too little air. And I think it had tinted windows. It got named the pimp-mobile. Then there was Jerry, our Chevy Blazer. After Jerry, was Eddie, the CRV, my first carI didn't have to share with anyone. And now, I have a great car with no name. I've had the car for about 2 years, but I haven't been able to come up with a name. I want something German and authoritative sounding, but everything I've tried out has never stuck.
Leo, love the camera names. My first iPod was Harry Podder.
we name cars in my family too. I am not good with car years so I will give u the car make and name: my mom's escort, I learned how to drive a stick in her, was named *** so named by my dad for reason unknown als we called her the pregnant roller skate, then we had my sisters truck Black Beuity named because she was always so clean and shiney, then my red dodge neon named Baby because well she was my baby, followed closely by Precious my black oldsmobile, then I had my red blazer Ditch Magnet ( i ended up in the ditch) then named Topper after it flipped and landed on it's top in the ditch, now i have my grey boniville her name is Bertha just cause she is kinda ugly and beat up, I also named my husbands Impala Leroy Brown because it is tan and brown and looks like a leroy to me. got the logn stipe of brown like a combover too
Genius! My iPods have been named too, but not nearly as awesome. I had an old pink mini named Miss Piggy, and my newer greeen nano is Kermit.
