I didn't know you were building a chicken coop!!! How exciting!!! What kind of chickens are you getting? Layers, broilers, fancy?
We are getting more chicks this spring and I am so excited about it! They're going to have to live in our basement for a couple of weeks (in a box, lol) and I am really excited about it.

Re: Holly!!!
Yes! So excited. Umm...brown ones? Haha. Layers.
How many do you guys have/ how many will you have? Can I see a pic of your setup!?
Do you sell them/ give them away? We will prob bring them in/ sell them @ work.
We have 4 right now and will be getting probably 2 more this spring. Any more and we will have to build a bigger outdoor area for them (the dog will eat them if they aren't enclosed, unfortunately!).
We do give them away when we have a lot and my coworker has offered to buy them from us. Right now we only get one egg every two days (because of the cold/lack of sunlight) so we don't have any to give away.
This is a pic of the outdoor area. There is a small door that goes into the shed and the actual coop with a roost and nest boxes is in the shed. I don't have any pics of that but will get some for you later.
Looks great! We will probably do something similar but haven't figured out the exact setup yet. I would love to see the setup inside if you get a chance to take a pic!
We have to keep them separate from the dogs too. Lily wouldn't bother with them I don't think but little Walter is a HUNTER! That's a terrier for you!
Yea we had been getting eggs from the guy down the street but since he doesn't have any to sell this winter we decided why not get our own!
what's is y'alls rooster to hen ratio ?
when we move to NC I really want some -- Arucanas (sp) to be exact -- I want blue eggs !
H says that the hen house should face east and the heaters should be on the west side ( since with will never get sun )
give me some chick tips, ladies !
We have no roosters.
Our coop is completely indoors, so no sun, with no heaters...they just lay less. They survived this winter where we had negative temps. Their outdoor run faces west.
There is a theory that chickens evolved from the dinosaurs and I full believe it!
