Vday Disaster! (long)

I am trying to get over yesterday but it is hard so I am going to vent/share...Vday is my husband's birthday and we celebrated his bday all weekend, he even took off of work Sunday for us to spend together. So I was expecting nothing at all for Vday yesterday and did not think there was any chance he would be home for work as a surprise since he took Sun off and we are going on vacation next week. I was fine with not doing anything, he is very romantic but I just figured oh well, I mean we are going to a ski lodge with a jacuzzi room next week so who cares about a contrived holiday. Anyway I get out of work at 2:45, and go to pick up his present at Best Buy. He calls me as usual before he goes to work at 3 and tells me about his day, etc., and that there is a surprise when I get home. I knew there were flowers cuz I saw it on our online bank statement so I thought that was it.I guess I was wrong but I figured I would go do some errands instead of going straight home to "the flowers" because after all it is a Monday and I have to cook for him all week cuz he works nights and has to sleep in the daytime and usually doesn't have time to make anything. Also I promised 1 of my students I would buy her a pea coat since they are all on clearance. So I told him at 3:15ish I was picking up his present and coming home, but as I was driving home I decided to go to the mall for the coat and the grocery store. Usually when he is getting to work/starting work I don't text him unless it is very important because he sneaks his phone in, he would get fired if they found he had it. Naturally I didn't tell him about my change of plans because when he works nights I'm on my own and do my own thing. Anyway finally got home at 5, and he was home, had a candlelit dinner - rack of lamb, sun dried tomato cous cous and fresh snap peas, all homemade, and huge flowers as well as a necklace. We freaking fought for 45 mins I was crying and he was getting so angry b/c he swore I knew he was home since he was "dropping hints" but I was oblivious to the hints, then he says he swears I said "I know the surprise is you're home" on my way from the grocery store when he called me on my cell and I never said that. It sounds foolish I guess the fighting but he was so upset I didn't come home right away and with the miscommunication it just grew. Eventually it was done but I couldn't stop feeling such a tightness in my chest and belly even though I was fighting myself for it to go away. I still feel like I can't breathe now that I am getting ready for work. It was just a disaster. I know soon we will laugh about it but I am still so upset at being upset and how intense our fight was, and he says he is never surprising me again but I had no idea! IDK I don't need advice I just wanted to share it.
