is it legal.....

is medical marijuana legal in your state???

if so what state and how long has it been legal ???

do you support it ??

do you really KNOW the law or just think its a bunch of pot heads ???

Re: is it legal.....

  • in VT as far as i know it is not legal, in CA, my last state, it WAS.  i had friends who had their licenses and honestly, i thought it was mostly a joke.  they were potheads through and through.

HOWEVER, i think legalizing pot is the right answer.  we can tax it like ciggies and booze and help our nation's deficit, we can make it so there is not such a taboo on a "drug" that has the same potency as booze, and we can really eliminate some drug crime.  if pot is legal, there will not be "drug wars" for pot, there will not be some guy on the street trying to outsell another guy, etc.

yes, i have smoked.  a lot when i was younger.  i grew up in an area where people grew pot in their attacks until their kids could climb stairs.  no, i do not think this is a problem when treated properly.  i am a good woman who has made good decisions in her life regardless of the fact that myself, my entire family (parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, GRANDPARENTS) and my husband and friends have all smoked.

  • I live in Massachusetts.  Not a chance marijuana is legal lol.

I do support marijuana use for medical purposes, but I know it's tough to allow that without people taking advantage of it.  I think the people who created that law had good intentions of helping people who are sick and in pain find some relief.

I tried marijuana a few times when I was younger but wouldn't even consider myself a recreational user.  I'd try it again.

I'm w/ Shauni on this one.

I'm in VA and it's not legal...I wouldn't have an issue if it was here though.

  • Also from MA - it's not legal here, but they have changed the law so that you won't be arrested if found with less than an ounce - they hand out fines. But then people don't always give the right info and most don't pay up, and it costs more to bring offenders to court than the $100 fine so a lot of people get away with it (this was all in the newspaper last year). I have smoked. I definitely think it should be legalized and taxed, just as I believe prostitution should be legalized and taxed (although I am against the act itself) because it could make a major difference in this country.
  • I'm in NY and it's not legal.

  • I have no idea if it's legal in MD, I think no?  I know that a lot of people take advantage of medicinal marijuana, but I don't really care about it since I think it should be legalized anyway.  I've never smoked pot and wouldn't if it was legal, but I don't see why it can't be legalized and regulated.  Any argument I've heard against pot can be applied to alcohol and/or cigarettes, so it seems illogical.

  • Nope, not legal in MD.  I think legalizing for medical purposes only is a joke.  Have you ever watched the show Weeds?  I realize it's just a show, but it's kind of like Shauni said - easy to get a license and mostly potheads getting their fix.  If that's the case, why not just legalize for everyone, tax and regulate?

At the very least, I think it should be decriminalized (like what Aspersia's talking about) to avoid filling up our jails and spending tax money to house people who aren't really causing any trouble.  For minor offenses (less than an oz.) give them a fine, maybe some community service and move on.

On top of just legalizing pot, I think there are a lot of other profitable and feasible uses for hemp that we could be capitalizing on if it weren't illegal.

I have smoked my fair share of pot, graduated with an engineering degree, hold a steady job and make responsible choices.  IMO, I've seen a lot more lives ruined by alcohol than pot, and it just doesn't make sense to allow one and not the other.

  • It is legal here in MT. We have had alot of problems with people abusing the "only for medicinal purposes" which is what everybody figured would happen. I have headaches at least once a week I could easily walk into a store with an onsite "Doctor" and get my card. Have I used before-yes. Is it my kinda deal-no. I think just like others legalize it sell it and tax it just like booze. Just because it's legal doesn't mean that everybody is going to run out and start all of a sudden, not everybody drinks just because it's available.
  • I'm in PA.  Legalize MJ? hahahahaha

It's still one of the only two states left that still regulates alcohol.  The other is Utah.

I've never smoked pot, but I know a lot of people that do.  In fact, for some reason. there's been a fair bit of it that's been smoked in my house.

So my point is, it's not my thing, but I really couldn't care if other people do it.   I also a fan of making it legal nationwide - like for rec use too.

  • Marijuana is not legal in PA. Stupid puritan blue laws keep alcohol regulated here.

I support legalization - medical or not.

I think it's no worse than alcohol. When's the last time a bar fight broke out amidst a bunch of stoners?

So I say legalize it and tax it - we make money off of it, and the police can concentrate on actual criminals instead of pot heads.

  • I'm pretty sure it's not legal in GA but I really have no idea. I could care less either way. It makes more since for it to legalized since the taxes would help the economy and this is the same debate, pretty much, that happened with alcohol. Just make it legal and the big hoopa over it will fade.

I've never smoked it and never plan to smoke it, legal or not. I've only been around it once and I wasn't even offered any (which the guy knew I wouldn't anyway which was good).

Time could be well spent on other pressing matters in this country...

  • It is legal in Michigan. I do not support it. I have never done it, and neither has DH. I have seen people have problems because of it, and I do think that it is just a bunch of potheads coming up with excuses to get it legally. People that don't want it, even if they have a condition that allows it, are not going to try to get it.
