Tipping an intern?

I just got the opportunity to have a massage with one of our interns where I work. (Of course I jumped on it!!!) How much would you tip? I'm not paying anything... our massages here with our normal therapists are $140... not sure if I should go with like 10% of that as a base or what. Suggestions?

Since it's still using that person's time, I'd still go with 15-20% ($21-28).

As a massage therapist myself, I would say that for an intern, you normally tip 15-20% of what you would pay full price for the typical massage provided by the fully certified therapist at that establishment (wow, that's a run-on sentence and a half!). Keep in mind the therapist has been through TONS of training to be able to work on the public, so they do know their stuff. It'll be much appreciated if you tip

Thanks ladies! I know we're on the higher end of massage prices so I wasn't sure if I should go off our rates or the average in the area. That's why I was thinking maybe a lower percentage of of rates. She was GREAT though so she's getting a BIG tip Monday when she's back in. Smile
