Caring for Bamboo or Hardwood Floors?

We are buying a house, the main floors are bamboo. I have no idea how to take care of them other than not use a lot of water or to not use vinegar on them. Can anyone tell me the best way to care for them? TIA!

Re: Caring for Bamboo or Hardwood Floors?

  • Ugh, I just know that my parents put them in half of their house (including the kitchen) and my dad was SO paranoid about any water ever getting on the floor or anything scratching it since it's such a soft material. It seemed completely impractical and annoying to have in high-use areas of the house. Although they look nice and I bet it would be not too difficult to maintain in other areas of the house. They just seem like a lot of work to me from the little I've seen of them.
  • We don't have bamboo, just the laminate flooring, but I use the Shark mop on it and Swiffer all the time. I'm not sure if this would work for the bamboo though, since the Swiffer is pretty wet. The Shark mop is just steam though, so that might be ok.

  • Thanks Ladies!

MrsAWZ, DH has told me I can get a steam mop so maybe that is what I'll do.

  • I have bamboo flooring.  I love them, but they do scratch fairly easy.  I vacuum them first, then spray a mix of water and vinegar before I mop them with a Bona mop.  No fancy cleaner needed for hardwood.

  • We have a Bona mop, too, and use the spray that is made by the same company.  Makes the floors pretty clean.  You can get a big thing of the Bona spray (with refill) at Costco.  The Bona mop is available at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  Congrats on the house!
