Anyone else not impressed with their Dyson? Mine won't pick up crumbs!
When it comes to picking up dust that thing rocks! I have dust bunnies the size of tennis balls in my canister! But when it comes to crumbs I have to go over them about 6 times for it to pick them up. I wash out the filter religiously and don't know what else to do. I know everyone seems to love their's so maybe someone has a suggestion of something else to try?
Re: Anyone else not impressed with their Dyson? Mine won't pick up crumbs!
I did not have a successful dyson experience-it stopped picking up stuff and we were told to "send it in" to get it fixed. Every vacuum shop refused to work on it. We didn't/couldn't wait for it to be fixed.
We ended up buying this vacuum-the Kenmore Progressive that was top rated by Consumer Reports. We're very happy with it.

I haven't had that exact issue but I haven't been that impressed with mine. There's another brand that I heard of that is supposed to be better than Dyson. I'm googling it and it's called Miele I think.
My parents told me about it, they were at some shop that did bicycles and also vacuums (random pairing, I know) and the guy was telling them that Dyson sucks and these things are the best.
That's what I'm planning on when my Dyson dies again, we already got it fixed once! HTH!
L-R: Liam(5), Eimhin(3) and Fionn(1)!
Liam - Sounds like "Leem" The Irish form of William. William means "Will, Desire" and " Helmet, Protection"
Eimhin - Sounds like "Heaven". From the Irish word Eimh, "Swift, Ready". This name is particularly associated with St. Evin, a bishop who gave his name to the monastery he founded at Monasterevan in Ireland. It is also anglicized as Evan.
Fionn! Another name to confuse you Americans!! It is pronounced f-yun...like fun with a y in it. Fionn was a mythical hunter-warrior of Irish mythology.
I could DIE for a Miele. I vacuumed as much as i could when i was a nanny because i loved it so much!
We have both a Miele and a Dyson. (I like having a vac. on each floor).
I have allergies and asthma so quaility vac. are a necessity. I love the Miele. I do have it serviced every year or so and it still works like brand new (it is 9 years old).
The Dyson is another story- it works and all but it is no Miele. No one will service the Dyson (and I will not ship it out for service) so it is what it is.
Between the 2 the Miele is better bang for the $$
How old is your Dyson? Ours was amazing when we first got it, but it slowly deteriorated, and after 5 years, we had to replace it with an Oreck.
We tried to get the Dyson serviced before we gave up on it, but the local shop wanted $150 for it. At that price, we chose to replace rather than repair. I won't ever get a bagless unit again.
Similar experience here. After 5 years it didn't pick up (and honestly I didn't use it much in years 3-5 since we moved and have hardwoods which I sweep mostly). Took it to a sevice station, $95 to replace some part. DH came with me to pick it up and we walked out Dysonless and with a Simplicity canister vac and Miele floor tool. Thankfully they credited us the $95 plus about $25 for the Dyson and it helped on the Simplicity price. Couldn't be happier. It's a lot lighter and gets into and under more places than the Dyson did and of course it picks up like a charm.
This is so sad to hear!
My mom had vacuums break on her every year, so one Christmas my dad and I bought her the Dyson for pets. This was years ago, (6-8) back when the vacuum was new and extremely expensive. (We spent well over 1,000 on it.)
She still has it. Last year the hose broke on her, and then sent her a new one. She hasn't lost suction or anything, and it is a dream! (It is used daily on bird feathers and seed, kitty litter messes and dog hair. She uses it then weekly to vacuum the carpets.)
I've been dead set on saving up my own money to get one for my house, because it has worked for her for so many years. I'm really scared to bite the bullet now.
