big boy bed and potty in the same weekend?!?

WTH??

Yesterday I noticed R kept touching the front of his diaper, so I decided to put him on the potty.  He totally went.  And then did again 2 more times last night.  His diaper was also dry each time I sat him on it!  He then went on the potty this morning as well.  His diaper wasn't dry, but it wasn't soaked either.

And...we finally got his bed moved into his new room, so we attempted the big boy bed last night.  Not a complete fail, but not necessarily a total success either.  DH ended up laying with him until he fell asleep.  R slept from probably 10:30 - 4:30 and then woke up crying.  So, DH went back in and laid with him, only this time R didn't go back to sleep.  Today, I get to deal with a cranky, over-tired 2 year old.  DH will be gone for nap time, so I will have to do this on my own.

I've already told DH that he cannot lay with him every night - or we'll be back at square one with him not falling asleep without us.  R will get used to the bigger room and the new noises. He now has 2 windows.  His old room had only 1 window, and it opened to our sunroom - because the sunroom was an addition. The room is perfect for a baby.

We already use a fan with R, but I'm thinking of getting a noise machine to help with the new noises as well.  Any thoughts??

Re: big boy bed and potty in the same weekend?!?

  • I wouldn't do anything different then the fan already. With the fan I doubt he is hearing any new noises. He probably is just adjusting from not being in the crib. (I sleep w/ a fan and I don't hear any noises) + just being in a new room. He will get the hang of it.

We did the exact same thing w/ A. We moved into a new house and since I was expecting A2 the crib didn't go back up. We moved, she had her very own room (she was in my room for those 2 years), plus she moved to a toddler bed. I know that was a lot to throw on her but after a few nights of putting her back to bed, her screaming and crying she did just fine. Yes it sucks but give it a few days and I bet he is sleeping on his own. Maybe since he is so tired he went right down for his nap?

  • he did go right down for a nap yesterday - but I totally wore him out!  He had been up pretty much since 4:30am, had gone shopping with Dad, and then we had a playdate with a friend - and since it was so nice, we even played outside.

Now..I'm ready to kill DH.  He ended up sleeping in bed with him ALL NIGHT!  I was so p*ssed.  I know that in about 3 days, if DH keeps this up, he's going to get all frustrated with R and then I'm going to have to solve the problem.

I know I'm not perfect in all things parenting, but I like to pride myself on at least being a stickler when it comes to bedtime and routines.  DH is killing the routine with this one.

  • You seem to be right on the same schedule we were for Alex.  He was potty trained fully about 3 mos. before his 3rd birthday and had moved into his big boy bed in the fall too.  He likes it well enough, but the big thing that has changed is that he now wants a light on all night.

I love Reece's room btw, the pictures were awesome on FB.  I've wanted to do that to a room before and now with 2 boys, we might have to some day.  Yours is one of the best I've seen.

  • well, today Reece is afraid of the potty :(  I think he scared himself when he sat down to pee yesterday and pooped instead!  Now, he won't go near it.  Oh well.

Nap time is good. now it's just a matter of getting DH on board with bedtime.  (He slept in bed with R all night last night.  I was sooooo mad)

And thanks - DH worked very hard on the room and did an awesome job!  It turned out better than I had thought.  We still have a few things to get, like a dresser and stuff, but we'll get to them in time.
