Maternity Leave approved!

My maternity leave plan was approved yesterday, woohoo! This is a huge relief, the theater I work for is a fairly small non-profit and incredibly in the 10 years it's been open no one has needed maternity leave. Our employee handbook has 2 sentences about using short term disability and that's it.

They are really supportive though and between short term disability and vacation time, I will be paid for 11 of the 12 weeks that I am taking off. This is huge relief.

Now I wonder how they are going to react when I proposing working from home 2 days a weeks once she is born.Surprise

  • that's awesome! when do you plan to cross the work-from-home bridge?
  • That's awesome to get 11 weeks paid!!  GL getting the two days to work from home, too. :)

  • I am not sure when I will propose the 2 days idea. My department already know about it and they feel fine with it. I already have a work laptop and cell phone and a huge portion of my job is emailing and phone calls. I am just going to sort of feel it out over the next few months.

  • great news!

at my company, they don't really care about a solid return-to-work/telecommuting plan until you're already on leave - my friend at work who had a baby 2 years ago didn't have to formally propose her plan until about 4-6 weeks before her return (she took 12 weeks mat leave)
