um. what can I do?

so my neck.. it's downright embarressing, and not the kind where I think it's worse than it is.  4 people asked about it at work, asking if I was ok.

So when I get SUPER stressed out I get cysts on my face/neck.  I've remained relatively unscathed so far with all the stress but now with MORE things on my plate I apparently have lost control.

I don't know what to do, they are very painful.  I know touching my neck, which I notice I do alot of is a NONO especially since I touch dirty money so I've been santizing/washing my hands like it's my job and when I get home I always do a cleansing with astringent (sensitve formula.. it's GROSS what's on there.. bleck) and I wash my face in the am and pm.  I've started using just dial on my neck, and using some aveeno hydrocortizone just because the cysts are not only painful and icky looking but also ITCH.

When I saw my dr, he noticed them and said they were because I'm stressed.  He actually didn't need to ask why I was there once he saw my BP and then my neck.

But what are anyone's helpful hints?

I look like crap. :(

Doesn't help I had a lady yell at me first thing and I could totally see her staring at them while berating me.  Oh I'm SORRY you had to leave in a minute when we couldn't find something we already told you we didn't have.  Did you have to rush to the hospital or a bday party?  No.. you were on your way to foxwoods.  and BTW when you call and ask and we check and we DONT have the item, how is it our fault that YOU drove all this way because you wanted to see for yourself?

  • Witch hazel is a good idea, but maybe if you go to a dermatologist they can at least give you either some creams or even meds to help. I know Joel has eczema and he went to a derm( in MA)  before we got married and they gave him a lotion, some prednisone and some pills to help him relax at night and sleep because he would scratch when he was sleeping and didn't even notice...it helped tremendously. Now it isn't even an issue and he only has to use the lotion from time to time.

    Good luck!!

Yes I would say to go to a dermatologist right away. I mean stress sucks and causes a lot of ailments, but there is no way that you should be dealing with that. I am sorry that on top of everything you have this.

  • I'm no help, but wanted to say that I'm sorry you have to deal with this on top of all the stress you've got going on :(  And really, wtf with the lady yelling at you?  It's a good thing I'm not in customer service because I would probably explode if someone treated me like that.  Rude, rude, rude.
  • Definitely go to a dermatologist (or even back to your doctor) for an oral prescription. I'm surprised your doc didn't write you one!  Stress produces all kinds of hormones, which in turn, wreak havoc on skin. Topical treatments most likely won't help.  Good luck, I'm really sorry :(
  • Okay so I don't have a dermatologist, so that's out for helping asap.

I tried the witch hazel yesterday and by the end of the night it did seem that whole area wasn't AS red and for me it wasn't AS painful.

Should I just call my dr?  I have an appt on the 8th.  I did stop the meds he put me on at first because they were actually making me freak out worse..  I have to call in a few for a followup about changing meds or see if he wants me to just see how I manage.

I can't take prednisone.. it literally makes me crazy.

Im also due for AF so I'm sure THAT has a huge part in this on top of stress.

  • Do you want a recommendation for a dermatologist?  My mom sees one in Cranston, I believe her name is Dr. Saap, but I can call her to confirm... she really likes her.
  • sure Kris!  I'll take any recc's :)
