We have a pug/beagle mix we adopted from town lake almost a year ago. He's always spent the days in the laundry room. In the evening he tends to spend a lot of time in the backyard. A lot of it is because Max (the dog) loves the kids and he's always trying to play with DS and DS is still a little too small and gets scared when Max tries to play with him. I know I can train Max to not do that and will do that eventually.
My question is right now that the weather is nice (not too cold or hot) should I leave him outside all day? Wouldn't he like that better than being in his room all day? If I do this for a few weeks would it then be hard to get him used to his room again? I don't want to leave him outside when it gets really hot.

As long as he has access to water and shade, he will be fine outside. Also, as long as you still let him in occassionally (assuming he is an indoor dog) while you guys are home, I wouldn't think he would have a hard time adjusting to being inside again. Also, after a week of rescuing my dogs EVERY SINGLE DAY, just be sure that he can't get out of the fence while in the backyard. If he can and does, it is way more stress than anyone needs to deal with.
This!!! Although I know I said he would be fine...I do prefer for my dog(s) to be inside too. My mother won't let me keep my dogs in the house and it is driving me insane. They have developed all sorts of awesome bad habits. My mother now has a hole in her backyard that my 85 lbs dog could probably disappear in.
Ditto this. Plus, I would be paranoid that the dog would get out and get hit by a car, etc.
