If you have a summer veggie garden...

Where do you buy your plants?

We have tried the big box stores in the past, and werent impressed.  Last year we tried the Newtown Farm Market and all of our tomatoes we planted seemed to be diseased and just bad.

Im looking for suggestions on places like the Newtown Farm Market, small and good prices.  TIA!

Re: If you have a summer veggie garden...

  • I had a pretty successful garden last year but I started everything from seed.  It's a little more work, but it's fun to make it all work from start to finish.  If you're willing to give it a go, I thought that my tomatoes were especially forgiving.  They can sprout roots all along the vine, so they got a little leggy inside, but when I transplanted them really deep they shot up!  I started everything in one of those Jiffy kits.  Super cheap.

  • I've had bad luck start from seeds (can't get the humidity right), but I buy plants from burpee and have had really good luck with them.
  • Might be a little late but we dont have room for seed starters so we go to Funke's. They are over by Spring Grove and are wonderful. They prefer cash (you pay more if you use a charge card) but you can get anything there. They have hundreds of varieties of veggies and fruits and the staff is great. I would definitely suggest them.
