Anyone here have a child with learning disabilities?
Just asking because I have found no boards anywhere on the web for parents that are dealing with this.
I have checked out some great books and some mediocre sites in my need to find information and support through this crazy rollercoaster.
If you have a kiddo going through any sort of IEP what have you done to educate yourself and what support have you found? I am a single mom with parents that have their own problems and friends that love me and my dd but have no idea what it's like so I don't want to even talk about it with them... but I would love to chat with someone going through this...
Thanks!
Re: Anyone here have a child with learning disabilities?
It is mostly younger kids there, but I hand out and answer questions about older kids as needed. I also check the School Aged Board, but it gets way less traffic.
I answered your post there.
I have a son who is dyslexic and ADHD. It has been a horrible challenge just dealing with the school system. I understand what you mean about there not being a ton of info out there especially as the kids get a little older. I can also sypathize with not having a lot of friends and family to discuss it with. It seems like everyone else around us has very gifted children while mine struggle. They just don't understand.
Our Dr. recommended a book called "Reading David ". It helped me in a lot of ways. It was specifically about her son that hs dyslexia but I think there are a lot of take aways for any parent and child working through learning disabilities. It made very aware and sypathetic to my son's school experience (which has been very different than mine) and has helped me feel like I am not alone.
