Tipping Q

Ok, Ive gone to the same nail salon for years and I always go to this one girl, but today I just walked in and got the owner. I usually tip anywhere between $8 and planned to give him $8 until he ran my card and I saw they raised the prices. If I had gotten my regular girl I still would have tipped 8 but for the owner I didnt, because I figured he is making more than an hourly wage and I gave him $6 is my reason for doing so justified?

Re: Tipping Q

  • I've always heard that if the owner is doing your service you dont have to tip at all. I dont feel comfortable with that so I tip between 10-15% for them. So I think your justified.

  • i would prob figure same work, same tip, independent of who they are or how much they make. but i don't think what you did was wrong either.

    Agreed.

  • Tipping $2 less is no big deal. Sucks their prices went up though.

  • Tipping $2 less is no big deal, especilly since you were unaware the prices went up. Personally I think the "you don't have to tip the owner" rule is a giant sack of bull. If the person does you a service that you usually tip for, you should tip them as well. The owner doesn't walk out with 100% of whatever it is you just paid. They have to pay the rent, bills, employee salaries, supply costs, and various other overhead. Just because they own the place doesn't mean that they make a ton of money and don't need or appreciate what ever you may tip them. Sorry for the rant, but I just think that mindset is unjust and unfair. As a small business owner myself, I know a tip is always appreciated.

I agree with you here! I would never not tip, and realize the price Im sure went up because costs went up, so even though I tipped $2 less I still ended up paying $4 more LOL
