Does anyone have a dermatologist they can recommend in the south metro or Edina/Bloomington area?
Re: Dermatologist recs
I did not care for Mark Hagberg of the Skin Rejuvenation Clinic in Edina. It felt like he wasn't listening at all and just trying to rush me through once he realized I wouldn't be dropping thousands on fancy creams he was trying to hawk.
If Uptown isn't too far for you then I would HIGHLY recommend Nadine Miller at Uptown Dermatology. She really listens and goes over all of your options. I had very problematic skin for a long time and I now have crystal clear skin that I LOVE. I just wish I had gone to her much sooner in life (like before our wedding.)
I just started seeing Nadine at Uptown, and I really like her! Several years ago I was seeing Dr. Jaime Davis at Uptown, and I liked her as well, but she has really long wait times to get into see her. I got off the dermatology bandwagon just prior to my wedding, and I just started going again last month. I saw Nadine, because I could get into see her right away (vs. waiting until April for Dr. Davis), and she seems really great--very friendly and sympathetic, and you don't feel rushed at all...
My only complaints about Uptown are:
1) I seem to often have long waits for my appointments there...so maybe bring a book
and
2) When I was seeing Dr. Davis for acne (in addition to skin cancer/mole checks, which is what I currently go for), I feel like she had a very medicine-based approach, and it was hard on my skin--lots of burning, dryness and extreme sensitivity. I decided to stop using all the prescriptions and instead started my own pre-wedding conscientious skin-care regime (including facials) with Aveda products, and my skin cleared up much better--and without harsh side effects. It has stayed clear ever since.
No matter where it is, I always (well maybe 98%) schedule the first appointment of the day that a doctor sees patients, even if it means waiting a bit longer to see them. There is never a wait unless they are late to work. :-) I learned that trick from my boss who hates waiting for appointments.
That's a good strategy... my strategy is to aim for mid-morning or mid-afternoon, to avoid ush-hour traffic... but then, yes, the doctors are more likely to be running late
I LOVE Dr. April Farrell at Skin Care Doctors, PA. She is so thorough and very personable. She even looks between my toes and uses a magnifying glass. She has been great. She has caught many suspicious areas that I would have never noticed due to their location. I have very fair skin and many moles so I have a lot for her to check every time I go in. She has also done an awesome job when areas have had to be biopsied/surgically removed. I have little to no scarring. I am so happy I found her. Skin Care Doctors has a few locations. The doctors go from clinic to clinic. I think a different clinic each day of the week. I go to the St. Cloud location but I know there are locations in Edina, Burnsville, Orono, and Apple Valley

I also go to Skin Care Doctors, but I see Dr. Shrift. I really like her. I've always been able to get appointments quickly. Dr. Shrift really listens to my concerns. I see her at the Edina location. FWIW, not all doctors are at all locations. Their bio list where they see patients.

Yes, I realized after posting that most the doctors just rotate between one or two clinics. My mistake!
