I came home to a large brush fire at the bottom of my hill

This picture was taken from a distance but I rounded the corner and this is what I saw at the bottom of my driveway. My heart sank.

It was so windy yesterday a powerline got blown over and started the fire.  DH was not home and neither were our landlords. The local fire department was already there and it had been burning for about 30 minutes.   DH and his friend came to help they were able to contain it and it stayed about 300 yards away from the house.  4 fire trucks from 3 different departments, 3 bull dozers making a dirt line, and the department of forestry got it under control.  We were even able to get power back on last night.

Our landlords' daughter is our state farm agent. DH took a back road and cut through a farm to get to our property and the agent was already there. I joked if he sang the "like a good neighbor song".

Everyone is fine no injuries and it just burned underbrush.  We are very blessed!

  • My goodness, how scary. I'm so glad that your house is fine but that's a bit too close for comfort.
  • Wow!!  That's scary!  I'm glad they were able to get it under control and that your house is okay!

  • thanks ladies.  It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life.  The smoke was rolling down the hill next to the driveway I stopped in the middle of the road and just started talking to people,

  • wow thank goodness it did not get worse.

i remember one time when i was in high school. next to my parents house is pine trees and one night someone woke us up and half the pine trees were on fire. we live in the county so my dad and his brother tried to contain it before the volunteer fire dept got there. very scary then.

  • So glad everyone and everything is ok!
