So Saturday we got a large envelope in the mail addressed to DH. I get it out of the mail box and read the return address label and ascertain it is from the armed forces (address label included APO). So I say to DH...."You think this is about your dad?"
DH and his sisters have had no contact with their dad for close to 15 years (his parents were divorced long before that even). His mom remarried a wonderful man who couldn't have been a better father to them (I think he comes in second place after me when it comes to tears shed at our wedding). So needless to say we don't expect to get something regarding his dad in the mail.
I open the envelope, DH didn't really want to deal with it. Inside is a bunch of file folders. It appears to be original copies of his dad's records w/the armed forces. Neither of us really read anything I just looked to find the most recent date on anything (June '10) and for an address of someone we can contact. There was no letter, no explanation as to why this was mailed.
We are currently trying to find out what to do with it. I have a call into my cousin who works on an air force base to see if he can point us at least to a contact office or person. We don't really want to be responsible for this stuff longer than we have to, but we are completely at a loss of what to do with it.
Its just strange that we received it. The top form in the file lists a forwarding address for his dad, why wasn't it sent there? Surely the air force didn't rely on a google search for an address (DH and dad have same first and last name and middle initial and the first thing you get in a google search is the real estate transaction for our house).
