Finding a reputable bankruptcy lawyer...

Any advice on where to look to make sure they are reputable? What questions to ask, etc?

Re: Finding a reputable bankruptcy lawyer...

  • I'd look at daveramsey.com for his recommendations.
  • I believe that you could also contact your state bar association for lawyers in you area.
  • Get the names of a few lawyers from your state or local (city) bar association, and then meet with a few of them (over the phone or in person) - most will likely have free intial consultations.

Note that the "price" of a bankrtupcy (if you ask them to quote their fee) is not always the way to go - in other words, the person who quotes you the cheapest flat fee won't necessarily be the best attorney.  Some are better than others.

  • Do a google search for your state's bar association to find a reputable bankruptcy attorney. Also, for what questions to ask, well that depends what chapter of bankruptcy you want to file. I would suggest going to www.findlaw.com to give ideas of questions to ask. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks klwills. This is the best resource I have found so far!

Wish us luck. I will be back when I need everyone's help with our budget after this mess...

@JaymeProctor, this thread is nearly 7 years old.

By now, OP has either filed for bankruptcy or not.

And please don't advertise on here.  It's against the T&Cs, and you would be toeing the line with legal ethics too.
