our baby names and is this neutral?

JJ and I have decided we can't wait 5 months to tell everyone our baby names since they're 100% set in stone. And I couldn't care less if people like them or not... I LOVE 'em. Please don't say anything on FB though! Here it goes:

Boy - Luke Jackson (Luke was what would have been my sisters or my name had we been boys, and I've always loved it. Jackson is JJ's middle name)

Girl - Violet Emily (I absolutely love Violet for some reason, it's unique w/o being yoonike, and it's classy and cute. Emily is my late grandmother's middle name)

Finally, this is the bedding set that JJ adores, it's the only thing he's been insistent on, and I love it too. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3500119 Definitely for a boy, but would you use that for a girl? It has bees and ladybugs, which I could play up. He's not into much pink and I don't want Violet to have a glaringly purple room, so this seems like it might work. WDYT??

  • You know I love the names Smile

The bedding... I don't really think its very girly. Sorry Sad

  • The bedding is great for a boy, but I think you can do better for a girl.

  • I love the names.

As far as the bedding, it's not very girly...but it is technically very neutral (which I think was your question.) I would go with a pretty green and try to add some touches to try to girl it up a bit. It's definitely cute!

  • I obviously like Luke, but I like Violet too. The bedding is cute, but I think you can find a more feminine set if it is a girl.
  • I LOVE the names! I wanted to ask you on Saturday, but didn't in case you didn't want to share them.

The bedding is not "girly" in a girly girl way, but I wouldn't call it masculine either. I definitely think it would be okay for a girls room. I'm with you in that I don't think a baby girl's room needs to be all pink/purple/frilly.

  • I love the names. Jackson is in our top 3 if we ever have a boy. I agree with everyone else about the bedding.
  • Those are great names!  It is hard to keep them to yourself isn't it? :)

The bedding set is very cute, but it does look more boyish.

  • Cute names.

Not a fan of the bedding though.

  • I love both of those names, especially Violet!

I think the crib bedding is gender neutral, but not feminine.

  • I lovethe names, Jackson is one of my favorites. I agree the bedding is very cute and gender neutral. I think you could make it more girly with accents in the room.

  • That bedding is ADORABLE!  I like it for a girl or a boy.  I think if you did a red (to play off the little fox) or green gingham as accent material with some frilly-but-not-too-frilly trim, that would girly it up perfectly.  But I love gender neutral rooms.
  • Love the names you guys have chosen!  I like the bedding but think it looks more boyish than gender neutral.

  • Love the name choices, especially Violet :).

I agree with everyone else that the bedding is a little too boy-ish, but you might be able to soften it a bit with more feminine accessories and colors in the room.

  • Love the names, and I think the bedding could definitely be girlified with other touches in the room and paint (on the walls, not on the bedding)

  • Thanks for all the opinions, I really do appreciate it.

I think JJ especially loves the bedding because of the fox, and he likes to tell people (and they believe) that Pumpkin is a fox, lol.

I think if I maybe get some ladybug bedding or some yellow polka dots or gingham like suggested we could girly it up a bit... but I'm thinking neutral will be the way to go in case #2 comes along and is a boy. Who knows, this one could be a boy and it's a moot point!

But anyway, we might still look but since JJ really, really likes it and he's been so non-opinionated on everything else, so I think this time I will do what makes him happy.

  • I love your names!

Are you planning to find out if your little one is a girl or boy?  I like the bedding, I do think it's more boy-ish though, but I'm a fan of girly stuff for girls after having a boy.  I'd bet you could make it more girly if you wanted to :)
