Teachers: pls come in

Hi,

I am pursuing a M.A. in pol. sci. and would love to eventually teach this field at a college (AA) level. I am a little perplexed since most of my hometown college require an MA and teaching experience. I am willing to gain that but I am not sure how. I am not interested in teaching little children but adults. How do you gain the experience? The NYBOE has lots of info for childhood ed. but nothing if you want to teach at a higher level.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Teachers: pls come in

  • I'm assuming you're interested in teaching as an adjunct, right? Because full-time faculty positions will require a PhD. Additionally, getting a tenure-track PhD position can be extremely difficult...sift through The Chronicle of Higher Education and you will find dozens of articles describing the difficulty of the job search for PhDs.

Assuming you are looking for experience to teach as an adjunct, is there an opportunity to TA (teaching assistant) at your institution? Or are there graduate assistantships that include teaching responsibilities? Those might be your best bet for getting teaching experience with college students....
