My TTC question.

Do I really have to chart and all that?  Can't we just do the deed a little more than usual?

I'm so naive about all of this, but I really don't want it to turn into a production.

Enlighten me about TTC.

Re: My TTC question.

  • oooooh are you gonna have babies??? exciting:) i think when we eventually try we would at least take a few months to just have lots of sex and see what happens before taking it more seriously...

but coming from someone at least a year away from ttc, maybe there are better people to give advice...

We are SO helpful haha. But at least we are encouraging:)

  • Nope, no need to chart :)  I gave it a few months humping it out without charting, ovulation predictor kits, and timing sex but it didn't work :(  After a few frustrating months I decided to get more serious about it and monitor things to give me so peace of mind.

But yeah, I would have loved never to know about this stuff!

And I am soooooooooooo excited you are thinking about taking the plunge!  Babies are the best and you won't regret your decision!

  • I don't believe you have to chart unless it has been a year since you started TTC and still no baby and even then charting is not really a requirement unless you have irregular cycles and you have no idea when you are fertile/ovulating. Some people just do OPKs, some just charting, some do both. Some just let the nature do its thang heheheh. I should be charting because I'm super irregular but I can't get myself to wake up at a certain time and check my temps lol.

Definitely! But here's the thing: You do the deed a little more than usual and then let's say you don't get pregnant from it. And then you keep on with this same pattern for 1 or 2 more months and still you're not KU. Once you've gone a few months with nothing happening, I almost guarantee that you'll become a tiny bit obsessed with TTC and you'll start wanting to time things perfectly and you'll want to know exactly when you're ovulating and all that. And that may lead to you wanting to temp/chart/etc. IMO, it's inevitable with any woman who starts trying-- once it doesn't happen right away, she wants to start doing all she can to force it to happen Stick out tongue

  • Just have fun for a few months!  Don't make it stressful until you need to take further steps!

  • I gave it several months of letting nature take its course before my desire to get PG was so bad that I decided to start charting. Charting is actually a ridiculous way to try to get pregnant, it does nothing but stress you out and cause you to obsess over your chart. If we were not on message boards, none of us would even know about charting or how to chart, unless you were diagnosed with IF problems and your doctor told you to start charting. My mom thought I was crazy when I told her I was charting.

  • So excited for you to start having babies!  That said, I chart to avoid right now and once we finally get to TTC there's no way I'll do it.  I hate waking up every day to temp and I can see how it makes people crazy obsessive about TTC.  I think you're fine to just do it a lot and hope for the best.  I'm pretty sure that's how most people get pregnant anyway.

  • I charted for a few months before we starting TTC, but my temps were always screwy and produced ugly charts, so they weren't really reliable for me :) I watched my CM, though, and we got pregnant on my second cycle (which was really like our third month of trying, but only the second time I ovulated).
  • I didn't chart. I did use ovulation kits, and did the "have sex every other day" routine.

Charting seems so overwhelming. I would just try w/o charting first.

  • Just do it like every day for about 10 days right smack dab in the middle of your cycle.  (if you have regular cycles that is.)

Or, just have a few too many glasses of wine on occasion and see what pans out, lol.

  • I have been reading some stuff, because we will be actively trying soon too.  Basically they say to do it every 2-3 days because it typically takes about 24 hours for they guy to replenish.  They said to just try to get into that habit because you don't know hwen you are ovulating unless you are charting/using OPK's.  I have been using the cheap OPK's from amazon because we are TTA at the moment.  I feel like I am already starting to become obsessive though because I am already in the mindset of I want to get KU'ed, so I want it to happen as soon as we start trying... and yes I know just because I want it to, doesn't mean it will happen!! :)

  • I charted with the first.  I talked to DH and said that when we are ready to try for #2 we are just going to go at it and if in a few months we aren't pregnant then I would go back to charting.

This is what I did and got pg on the second try, im contemplating charting for this next cycle but we'll see!

My period is pretty regular every month, but silly question.... when you say "smack dab in the middle of your cycle" how do I compute my cycle?

  • Thanks for the responses.  We are not TTC right this second, but maybe in the summer.

When is a woman's most fertile time?

When is a woman's most fertile time?

There is a school of thought that your most fertile day of a 28 day cycle is day 14.  There are ovulation predictor calendars that will give you an "estimate" of when you are fertile.  But they are just that, an estimate and not exact.  Each person is different.  The estimate may be right for you, but it certainly could be wrong too!  Check it out......

  • If your cycle is around 28 days, day 1 is the day your period begins.  Your fertile time is when you ovulate.  Typically this is in the middle of your cycle, so say day 10-18.  This when you want to go at like monkeys Wink

But as others have said, everyone's cycle is different and no everyone ovulates right in the middle of their cycle, so it can be a guessing game unless you chart, check CM, use OPKs, or other tools.

Just try to have fun with it!

Yeah, if I were just starting out TTC I wouldn't pay any attention to this stuff!  I only picked it up after being unsuccessful for a few months and getting frustrated.

But also know, that the statistics show that it can take up to 1 year for a healthy couple to conceive, even with perfect timing.  So if it doesn't happen right away, don't worry!

BTW, are you on BC pills?  Sometimes people have issues adjusting their bodies off of the pills which can delay getting pregnant.  But that is not always the case.  There are plenty of people who get pregnant their first month off the pill too!

    GL!

    GL!

I've actually never been on the pill, so I'm good in that department.

  • I agree with the other girls.  You become obsessed very fast!  You don't want to turn this into a "job."  My OB gave me the recommendation that starting on CD5, every sex every other day, or every third day until your period starts again, or you're pregnant.  She said every day is not good b/c it doesn't give the sperm time to build up again.  I will let you know if her plan works :)
  • Thanks for posting this question. DH and I are planning to start TTC in Summer or Fall of this year and I was thinking that I would have to chart since all the ladies seem to do it then it must be the right thing to do.

It sounds like it totally takes the fun out of it.  I'm glad I asked too.  Let's just got at it and have fun!  Ye-haw.  Smile
