Pretty is as pretty does!

My mom used to use that one on me when I was a kid and it just pissed me off, but damnit if it isn't true.

What phrases do you use now that you thought you'd never use when you "grew up"?

  • "Treat others as you wish to be treated."

My mom always told me that and I try but it is so hard to be nice to everyone!

  • "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".  So true!

There are so many models and actresses that people idolize and look up to, but inside they are just dirty nasty people.  If they only knew...

  • "Every time you point a finger, there are three more pointing back at you"

    and

"if you have to keep reminding people how great/cool/special/insert positive adjective here, you must not be great/cool/special/etc. enough for them to remember it on their own."

    Those were just a few highlights...my mom's a phrase-a-holic.

  • "I'm the boss, applesauce!"

And then there is one about a blind man pissing into the wind

    Haha that's too funny.

When I was little, my dad used to wake me up in the morning by coming into my room, opening the blinds, and saying "Daylight in the swamps! Look alive!" It annoyed me so much, but I do it to DH now if he sleeps late on weekends & I want him to get up & go do something with me. I crack myself up.

My dad also used to stand behind my mom when she was taking our pictures & try to make us laugh saying, "Do bears poop in the woods?" I heard him say it to my niece last weekend when she was getting her picture taken. I freaking love my dad.

Also, now that I'm married & living in a different state, my mom & I talk on the phone almost every day. She seems to think it's really funny when I tell her I'll call her later or talk to her tomorrow or whatever to say, "Don't you threaten me!" I have crazy parents.

Awww, my son and I do pretty much the same thing!  When he comes in to say good night, I tell him "see you in the morning" and he always responds "not if I see you first!"  We've been doing this for years...I'm going to miss that when he's all grown up.

  • My dad's response to all my millions of questions growing up was "to make little girls ask questions".

  • My mom says "it takes all kinds..." and now I definitely use that when I come across a douchebag.

My dad says "nuts breed nuts" so when I see said douchebags, I tend to wonder what their parents are like and likewise, I wonder what their poor kids will be like.

  • My mom used to always say "Just ignore them and they'll stop" whenever my sisters/brother were pestering me.  It used to infuriate me.  With my brother especially, because when I ignored him he would just continue until he actually hurt me (hitting, pinching, biting, whatever).  But I have actually caught myself telling my nieces and nephews the same exact thing.  And the moment it comes out of my mouth I cringe and think, "You're becoming your mom!"  Thank goodness I love my mom.
