Gyno Talk

So, I have an appt on Monday since I have some pain internally below my lower back, is the best way I can explain it.  It started on Sunday night after intercourse.  Since then it's been bothering me, moreso when we have intercourse.  It may just all be in my head IDK, but I really need to go to the gyno.

It has been so freaking long since I've been and it's about time I get a checkup and pap.  I also need to get on BC because I haven't used it in at least 7 years...yeah, that bad.

Sorry if this is TMI.

Re: Gyno Talk

  • I go annually for a physical/pap/BC refill.

Don't be nervous, that's what he/she is there for and I'm sure he/she has seen or heard it all. I'm sorry you've been in pain, because that's definitely not something that should be uncomfortable or unenjoyable - you're a trooper Wink Hopefully she can figure out what's going on.

  • I'd go now and get yourself on a schedule of going once a year at the same time (same month).  It's advisable especially if you're thinking of kids someday!  Good luck!

  • I used to go annually, but then when i got a new job/new insurance a year ago, I would have been due for my annual during the time period that I didn't have insurance and I just haven't gone yet.

HOPE IT ALL TURNS OUT OK!

  • I *usually* go annually but I've missed it a couple times. I just went back in November to get a refill for BC/pap/annual exam. Hopefully everything turns out okay! Sorry you're having this pain but I'm sure your doc will be able to help with whatever it is. GL!

  • Even though I absolutely hate it, I go every year. I figure its like my tax guy. I go to him once a year to make sure I get the right amount of money back so I might as well go to the gyn once a year to make sure everything there is working properly too. Then again, its also a necessity if I want a bcp refill.

I will admit, I dread it from the day I make the appointment until I'm walking out the door of the doctors office.

  • I was without insurance while I was in school because I wasn't working, and my annual appointment is usually in March, so I haven't been yet this year and I didn't go last year. I finally have insurance, so I'll be going soon. I have to find out if my new doc does that stuff in office or if I need a referral to a gyno. My old gp did it in the office.

  • i have never missed a year, even when i didn't have insurance i went to PP.  also, as uncomfortable as it is, this is how i see it:

these docs see V's ALL day.  that is their job. to stare at, poke at, reach into people's V's.  mine cannot be that much different than anyone elses.  and it takes like 1.5 minutes.

also, i was part of the study for gardasil (no hpv, just was part of the study) and to be part of the study, i had to get paps 4 or so times a year.  but i got paid for it, which helped.  either way, it made me feel a lot more comfortable with the whole thing.

  • I go every year (sometimes it's more like 13 months when I'm switching over insurance).  Like Shauni, I've gone to Planned Parenthood if necessary.  The actual uncomfortable part of the exam is SO short, so even though I dread going, afterward I always remember that it's really not that bad.  I really like my current doctor, too, which helps.

You don't actually have to go to your OB/GYN for the pain you're experiencing, I probably would have gone to my PCP (back when I had a real one) for something like that.

  • I have the lucky predisposition of lady cancer (as my mom calls it). I get to go ever three months for a pelvic and pap (now don't be jealous ladies, I pulled the lucky straw). At this point, it doesn't even phase me anymore. I think the more you think about it, the more you tense up and make it more uncomfortable.

But I agree it's really important to go regularly. Generally, they won't find anything, but if they do, you'll be glad that they caught it earlier rather than later.

  • ok, who picked longer than 3 years?!  WOMAN! Get thee to the frigging gyn!   Trust me, it's as miserable for all of us.   You'll live.  You might jeopardize your health by NOT going.

Kaz...are you free of all malignant cells now?

  • Dia- Thanks for asking. I've been in the clear for 9 months :)
  • Im going on friday :-) I go every year and have since I started my period at 12. To me it's just like going to the dentist and the eye doctor, just something you do. I really like my obgyn though so that probably helps.
