My runger is great

All this extra running has made me constantly hungry.  No joke.  This morning, this was breakfast at 8:30am:  old fashioned oats, cooked with almond milk, chopped up apple, a little honey and a handful of walnut bits.  And a sprinkle of cinamon.  Very filling, right?  Wrong.  I was super hungry by 10am.  And last night, I had a small porkchop, brocolli and a huge amount of risotto, and I was hungry an hour later.

All the hunger is starting to really annoy me.  I have to eat lots of carbs to fuel the running, and I try to balance it with protein, but I'm always hungry.  I wasn't planning on gaining weight while training.  This is crazy.

  • This is actually awesome!

Your metabolism is kicked up into gear. You most likely won't gain by eating more; you just need to fuel it the right way.

Have calorie dense foods on hand- like nuts, peanut butter, avocados, beans/legumes, and yes, dark chocolate. Most of the time, they will fill you up longer (along with protein of course).

Maybe try making a couple egg whites with your oatmeal (which sounds ah-mazing BTW) in the morning. It may fill you up more.

  • Thanks Jackie!  I was hoping I wasn't crazy.

What was really crazy was Sun/Mon for me.  I did a long run on Sunday (4 miles! longest ever!), and I was hungry, but not like super crazy hungry.  I had a couple of large-ish meals after that run.  But on Monday, when I had a rest day, I was hungry ALL. DAY. LONG.  And I didn't want to eat a ton because I wasn't working out so I could counteract the extra calories.  And I was baking for a large chunck of the day, so the runger didn't help me not eat the stuff I made.

  • Oh and the oatmeal thing is because I used to eat the instant kind, but it has so much sugar in it that I noticed I was getting hungry earlier in the day because of it.  So I started putting together my own.  It doesn't take much more time than the instant, since I just make it in the microwave.  So good.
  • Nope, not crazy! Completely normal!!!

Great great great job on the 4 miles!!!

On the days you are resting but get super hungry, just try to make healthful decisions, lots of protein, lots of veggies to fill you up.

Gosh I wish I would take my own advice sometimes!!!
