AW: Wedding Quilt

I finally finished the quilt wall hanging I have been working on for my BFF's wedding. DH's aunt made us one to use as our guestbook and my friend really liked it so I made a similar one for her. It's my first time making a quilt and I didn't measure anything so there are a few mistakes, but overall I'm pretty proud of it. Her shower is in a couple of weeks so I stayed up until 5 last night working on it. THis is what happens when DH goes out of town.

  • aaannndd you have to share that pattern :D    that tree is awesome!

Edit: did you just cut that tree from one large piece of fabric and sew it on?  I'm determined to get into quilting this year, and I have to make something like this :)

  • Wow!  You did a fantastic job.  I love quilting, and I can't wait to move into the new house where I'll have more room to work on it.

  • Gorgeous!! I've made a few in the past, but they weren't "true" quilts, basically I just put a bunch of square together. Lol.

    You did an amazing job!

I didn't use a pattern, Em. I measured one square and used that as my reference for the others and then laid them out until I liked the layout. The tree was handsewn on, which is what took so much time last night/this morning. The border was the most difficult part.

  • That is AMAZING!  I would love a quilt like that unfortunately all I ever seem to get are handmade afghans made out of the leftover colors that match nothing in anyone's house.

  • I love it, I quilt, but I suck at applique...maybe I'll put that on my 30 while 30 list (I am doing 30 by 30 of recipes and working on 30 while 30) there is an awesome Noah's Ark Quilt that would work so well for our nursery but it is all applique...

  • I do not/can not sew, so anyone who wants to make me a wedding quilt, I would pay and love you forever :)

  • Wow that's really nice!!  I love that tree, it looks great.

I've been messing with knitting and crocheting, but I haven't made anything I can keep yet lol

  • Congrats on the great job.  It's beautiful.

My mom quilts and sews, so I can technically do all of that stuff, but I just don't have the patience for it, and I don't enjoy doing it like she does.  I wish I did.

I'm the opposite.  I don't really know how to do this stuff and my mom never learned and now my mom-mom has passed so it's almost a loss!  It very much soothes me to do it so I love doing it - I just can't make anything!  I've tried to look for local places but the ones I've found are "clubs" to come and make stuff, not to teach me! Angry

  • That's so pretty!  I'm like some of the other girls here...I wish I could quilt, but sewing in general seems to be a talent that has escaped me entirely.  My grandma was a professional seamstress, and when I was little, I didn't have a single stitch of clothing that she hadn't made for me.  I've always thought it would be so cool to be able to do that, but I'm seriously just a loss on that front.

When my grandma passed away, she had a ton of fabrics still left in her sewing room, so I took home several yardages in variations her favorite color (blue).  I've wanted to add some patches made from my kids' old jeans and my dad's flannel shirts and maybe a couple of my old dresses, but I'm going to have to find a professional who's willing to work on it for me.
