Craziest thing you ever ate?
DH was the inspiration for this post. Friday night he had lunch with some of the guys from work and he ate a balut egg. For those who don't know what Balut is, it's a boiled fertilized duck egg and is a Filipino delicacy. I'll PIP below but must warn you that it's not a pretty sight. I can't look at it without gagging.
So, today's question is what it the craziest thing you ever ate?

Re: Craziest thing you ever ate?
That looks pretty nasty.
I've eaten bison, ostrich, emu, alligator and shark - none are particularly weird, but that's as crazy as I've gotten. I'm willing to try weird meats, but not weird organs or things that look nasty, so I'm pretty boring.
I had to write my answer in a new post because I can't look at the balut egg...lol.
Being Mexican we eat a lot of what some might consider weird. Here are a few:
Lengua- Beef tongue. This is so good as a taco with green salsa.
Menudo- Beef stomach lining. This is a soup with homony and chili powder. We top it with cabbage, cilantro, and onions.
Tripas- Small intestine. It looks really gross, but it taste the best when they are fried and really cripsy. Make a taco with them and green salsa and it's really good.
I've also had escargot and not a fan.
Some Mexican dishes I will not try are:
Cesos- Brain. I REFUSE to eat this! I also will not eat rattlesnake, or any type of worm.
It was alright... tasted like steak, but much more chewy.
I consider myself a pretty adventurous but I'm not sure I could do the balut egg. I have heard of it before though.
I've had alligator, iguana, possum, armadillo, octopus, shark (pretty normal where I'm from) and turtle (ashamed to say) when I was very, very young.
I LOVE beef cheeks, foie gras, escargot, dried fungi all those yummy things.
TTC since 2010
Me: 36, slightly elevated FSH. Everything else (hysterescopy, HSG, b/w) normal.

Deb, that looks nasty! No way could I have even put that in my mouth.
I have psychological issues with food and can't eat a lot of "weird" stuff without gagging at the thought. K hunts and is in to game, so I've eaten some gamey type stuff, but nothing too weird - elk, deer, rabbit, bison, etc.
When we were in Iceland on our honeymoon we tried puffin. It's a traditional Icelandic dish. I had about two bites and couldn't eat anymore. It was really, really dark meat and tasted a bit like chicken, but gamier. I just didn't like the thought of eating those poor, cute little birds.
WOW! I am so proud of all of you. I could not eat any of that. I am not an adventurous eater at all.. Craziness for me is trying seafood. I hate seafood but who love to eat it.
When we went up to Mass to get married we went to eat at our favorite restaurant when we live there, and H and Inlaws were eating some sort of seafood (mussels and i forget) I tired both and was SOOOO proud of myself for days.
Hmm, I'm willing to try anything once, so I've eaten a lot of crazy things. I don't know if I would try that egg though. Oddly enough, it depends on if bones have developed yet. I don't think I could deal with crunching on that. Otherwise, I would consider the same way I consider a mussel or a clam. One complete organism down the hatch, poop and all

Same here. My moms side is where I get my Mexican-ness so when we have get togethers over there we eat alot of that but at Easter (our biggest holiday) us grandchildren have made our uncles make BBQ, so over the years that is practically all we have at Easter now. I love Menudo though!!

Wasn't Menudo a boy band that Ricky Martin was in?
