Lake Tahoe favs?

Just realizing that I don't really have any Tahoe favs.  I just like going up, skiing wherever (depends on mood, who I'm with), and eating wherever (again, no places that I *have* to go to when in Tahoe, just whatever strikes my fancy).  Which made me think, maybe I'm missing out!  What if there is great stuff that I just haven't discovered yet!

What are some of your favorites?  Restaurants, ski resorts, markets, shops, bars, parks, whatever!  Those along the West shore are especially appreciated!

Re: Lake Tahoe favs?

  • The Burger Lounge in S. Lake Tahoe is good.  Its right past the Y on Hwy 89 (not in the directions of the casinos).
  • DH and I love skiing at Sugarbowl...close enough that it's not too much of a trek, but bigger than Boreal.  Plus, it doesn't seem to get too crowded when we're there.

During the summer we love staying at Rustic Cottages in Tahoe Vista (rusticcottages.com) and going to Sand Harbor.  We like to eat at Jake's in Tahoe City (gorgeous view of the water from the patio) and to hike the Rim Trail (but who doesn't)...

  • Heidi's in S Lake Tahoe is good for breakfast. They have crepes, pancakes, waffles and it's cozy inside. http://www.yelp.com/biz/heidis-pancake-house-south-lake-tahoe

We also like Riva Grill for dinner. It's right on the lake with a big patio/deck. They have good food and drinks, too. It's on Ski Run Marina. http://www.rivagrill.com/

  • Fire Sign Cafe is a really good place for breakfast in Tahoe City. DH and I always stop there at least once for breakfast when we are in Tahoe.

The market in Tahoma has some of the best deli sandwiches. They are huge for the price and there are many yummy breads to choose from.

For a nice dinner we love the Sunnyside Restaurant right out of Tahoe City. Their mai tais and fried zucchini appetizer are excellent. Sometimes we will just hang out in the bar and order drinks and appetizers instead of eating dinner there to save some $$$.

  • Rosie's Cafe in Tahoe City has good breakfast, some items are a little pricey but it's yummy!

I haven't been to Sugar Bowl since high school, but we were thinking of stopping there (or Boreal) on the way up and try to get in an afternoon of skiing -- I'll make the executive decision and insist up on Sugar Bowl now!.  Usually if we only go up for the day, we go to Sierra.  But if we go up for longer, we go all the way into Tahoe -- Squaw or Homewood.

  • Thanks everyone for the resto recs.  I've cut and pasted them into a Word file to save.  And the note about the market in Tahoma is great!  Half the time when I'm eating lunch at a resort, I'm wishing I just had a really good sandwich instead.
  • We love going to Tep's Italian restaurant...Friday's Station at the top of Harrah's is super good too (and the prices are totally worth the amazing view!). My parents have also gone to happy hour at Edgewood, they say there are amazing sunset views there.

As far as bars/clubs, I'd go with Vex inside Harrah's for dancing. Mont Bleu has a really cool bar inside their casino, with a fire pit, that is super relaxed to hang out at.

  • A nestie suggested the Italian restaurant Cafe Fiore, and we liked it, although it was a bit on the expensive side (to our taste). It's a small restaurant, so making a reservation might be a good idea.

We also like hiking down or along the coast to reach a few hidden beaches. I'd love to go back in summer for that, actually.

There's also the hot springs in Markleeville. We haven't been there for a while, so I hope it hasn't changed much, but it was a decent place to relax.
