Loose diamond

Hey ladies. I noticed yesterday that one of the diamonds in my engagement ring is *loose*!! I'd take it back to where we got it to have them fix it, but Fortunoff went out of business. :(

Any suggestions on where i should take it? Will it cost to fix it? I have no idea about any of this... But for now i'm only wearing my wedding band, and it feels weird...

Re: Loose diamond

  • Hi.

You can go to any quality jeweler and get this repaired. I'll tell you this - personally, I dont go too far away from my engagement ring. Meaning, when I take it in for cleanings (or when I had it resized), I watch very closely.  There have been jewelers known to take your center diamond out (if its high quality/expensive) and replace it with something else. Terrible right?

It shouldnt cost you too much money. I would think less than $100.

    Try the diamond district. :)

  • Agree with finding a decent shop in the diamond district. Also, you'll be (maybe) happy to know that Fortunoff is coming back! They are one of the clients I work with - I did all the retouching on the jewelry photography for their new site!

  • This is my biggest nightmare, a loose diamond, or heaven forbid, losing one!  I even convinced myself the center diamond was loose at one point and stopped wearing it, but didn't know where to have it checked and didn't want to mail it to send it back to the original jeweler.  Another issues is what Alisha said about them swapping out the diamond :-/  Good luck, and when you find someone, please let us know!
  • I had that happen with my engagement ring.  Any reputable jeweler should be able to make the repair quickly.  Sometimes they don't even charge.
