Re: resume critique

  • IMO you're making some mistakes that are pretty typical for a resume. Instead of just stating your job duties, focus on data and accomplishments. Were you working with just one student? If so, what things did you work on? What activities did you assist other teachers with?

  • Ditto Dr.Loretta; this resume is all over the place.  Lab skills, whatever those may be-organizational ability, math, science, and English skills, etc- must come first and be in the first paragraph or I'm not reading the rest.

Instead of listing the jobs in chronological order, consider listing a "job experience" section with a sentence on the job role instead of random bullets, and instead highlight the critical skills for the job you want up front.  In other words, I'd either write a paragraph of your expertise as it's related to the job or bulletize something like "Bandk08 has over X years of experience with strengths in managing laboratories, a degree in biology from some IL Univ., team collaboration, and analytical data review."

Skip the "relevant coursework" section-you're far enough out of college where you've forgotten much of it since you haven't used it, and we know it.  What training and skills do you have beyond college?  I don't want to see you 3 years out without continuing education/training.  Even if it's something like "classroom team building" or "understanding the teacher-student relationship" these show growth beyond the classroom.  GL!
