Dear Sir or Madam,
This letter is to introduce myself and express an interest in joining the Company team in a position such as Research Technologist. The opportunities that Company presents are very appealing, and I believe that with my education and experience, I would be a valuable addition to the team.
I graduated from the University of ABC, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, with coursework in genetics, growth and development, and neuroscience.
Key strengths that I possess include, but are not limited to:
? Organized and attentive to detail
? Adaptable and eager to learn new things
? Strive for excellence in my work
? Strong computer skills
? Works well independently, as well as with a team
You will find me to be energetic, confident and personable, the type of team member that you can be sure of. Please see my resume for additional information about my experience.
I hope that you will find my experience and interests exciting enough to justify a face-to-face meeting, as I am confident that I could be of value to the company.
I can be reached anytime via my cell phone, ###. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you about becoming a member of the Company team.
Respectfully yours,
Re: cover letter critique
My first suggestion would be "show, not tell"... show the potential employer examples of your key strenghts... something you have done that demonstrates them. For example: Use organization skills and attention to detail to maintain a detailed inventory spreadsheet (this is one from my field).
Also, just tailor the cover letter to the job description - don't try to make a generic one. Word-match - use words in your cover letter that appear in the job posting.
Maybe show that you know a little bit about the lab/organization that the posting is for... "I read in ABC periodical that your facility is currently working on XQY and I would like to be a part of that" or something to that effect.
That's all I have for now... good luck!!
