Hello Everyone! I am a bit of a lurker, but I here post once in awhile and today I need your help!
I moved here 6 months ago from Kansas City to start a job at Spectrum and my husband stayed behind to sell our house until he found a job here. Friday he got laid off from his job in KC and needless to say, we are at the bottom- really worried and stressed about the future since our house has not yet sold.
Due to family health problems, the Holidays and cost of travel, he has never been here for a visit, even after 6 months. However, he is on his way RIGHT NOW and we are so excited just to spend some time together this week and relax a bit while we figure out what to do. It is much needed time together.
What does this all have to do with the beer festival?? Well, since I've been here all alone I have not seen or done the city much so I am excited to get out this week. We both love beer and he brews a few times a year. I thought the Beer Festival at Comstock this weekend would be a perfect fun surprise for him. BUT- it is sold out. So... do any of you have extra tickets or have an idea where I could score some?
Sorry for the long post... I am just really excited for him to be here and, even in the midst of our stressful circumstances, I want this to be a fun week.
Thanks, guys!
Re: Winter Beer Festival- Got Tickets??
I don't have any tickets but wanted to suggest that if you can't find any, you two should check out one of the microbreweries in the area. I just went to Brewery Vivant on Saturday and really loved the beer. I think they were each priced at $4 or $5.
Have fun!!
I want to say I'm sorry you've had a rough couple of months there. I hope things start turning for the better!
However, as far as BeerFest, the only way you'll be able to get tickets is to pay more for them probably on CraigsList. I don't know if any are even available on there, but it's worth a check. The event sold out well in advance this year, which is good for the Guild but bad for anyone who still wants to go. I'm hoping next year they might find a way to increase the amount of tickets available, because the demand is definitely there.
Some of the local breweries/bars are having some fun happenings related to BeerFest - I know HopCat is hosting a before and after party, I believe Founders has an after party, and like Wendy mentioned I think the Meanwhile is doing something BeerFest related.
Oh Erin, I am so sorry to hear about your DH's job. Is he going to come up here to live with you now? I hope your house sells quickly!
I don't know about beer fests, but there are some local wineries who do very inexpensive/free tastings. Jim and I have also done the Southwest MI wine tour in a day. I'm not sure how you feel about wine, but the wineries are always beautiful. Let me know if you need more info. Also, have you become a member of the GR Public Library? You can check out tickets to Fredrick Meijer Gardens, the GR Art Museum, the Ford Museum, the zoo, etc...all for free.
I'll be thinking of you!
