I am part of QA Board for a large hospital system. Round table discussions at a conference were enlightening. I wanted to pass on.
Online nursing programs are being carefully reveiwed and evaluated by employers. There are negetive metrics trends that drawing attention- compliants, errors, negative outcomes, that are stemming from one segement of new nurses-nurses with online degrees. Several of the hospital groups that I networked with will not hire any nurse with an online degree. As there is a surplus of nurses in the market it is much easier to pick and chose.
We have decided (for now) to place any online degreed applicants to the bottom of the pile. Such canidates are only to be hired after board review.
If you are thinking of being a nurse please take this into consideration when selecting your school. The reputation of the program you select will play a larger portion of your job placement ability than year(s) ago. I hate to see people waste time and money.
Thank heaven for nurses.
Re: PSA - online nursing degrees
I couldn't imagine nursing being one of those acceptable online degrees! Wow. I'm surprised.
