Oh my.

So I think I've told you all about my DH's heart defect and that he has a pacemaker. Well, these pacemakers don't last forever (the battery dies after about 10 years) and his needs to be replaced. He had an appointment last month and the doc said the voltage wasn't low enough for insurance to approve the surgery yet, so he had another appointment this morning. We figured it would be soon, but he just called and it's on Monday. Holy sh!t. I knew this was coming and I've been trying to be calm about it (after all, DH has had this surgery 5 times already to replace and move the device and upgrade as grew as a child) but this is my first time and I'm super nervous. I thought I had more time to wrap to my head around this! Thank god his mother will be there with me and she has been through it the past 5 times.

Please calm me down and tell me everything is going to be okay. And start storing up your vibes because DH and I are going to need an overload of them on Monday!

Re: Oh my.

  • I'm sure it'll be fine, sending you lots of calming and good luck vibes that it goes smoothly. Lots of hugs!!! I work at a senior property and lots of these old people get pacemakers and they've been fine so you don't need to worry. It seems like a pretty common thing anymore so I'm sure the Dr. is well experienced.

  • I'd be freaking out too!  But at least his mom will be there and she should help calm your nerves since she probably has been through some of the scariest times when he was little!

I'll still send lots of nestie juju and prayers your way!

  • Aw I know it is coming up very soon, but that might be for the best! You will have less time to dwell and stress.

Everything is going to be fine! Like you said, your DH has been through this many many times so he knows what to expect. You are going to do great and be totally calm and collected come Monday! I will be sending lots of vibes towards you and your DH over the coming days.

  • Everything will be fine! I have several people in my family that have pacemakers (from the young to the old). It is scary, but the out come is always good!

Sending tons of vibes to you and your DH!

  • Just know that it's going to be ok...the anticipation is the worst part of any health related situation. Keeping you both in my thoughts and Prayers!

  • I, too, would be spazzing but I don't think you need to. It's such a routine surgery, and even the elderly/not so healthy come out of it just a-okay. DH is going to be great, and i"m glad you'll have his mom there for support. Lots of vibes and support coming from us, too!
  • On the plus side they are replacing it and keeping an eye on it before it becomes an emergency so thats very helpful!

Sending you tons of nestie vibes I'm sure things will go great and I'm glad his mom will be there to keep you company. Hopefully her experience will help!

Stacey's right. It's the unknown that always has us the most nervous. Like SD said after going to the doctor on Monday, "I wasted tears on that?!?" You'll feel the same way once the proceedure is over. Everything will be fine. calming vibes & healing prayers heading to you & your hubby. :)

That's a really good way of thinking about it. And DH keeps telling me to stop freaking out, because to him it's very routine.

Thanks ladies, you all are the best! <3

Feel better already?  If it helps at all, my SIL has had a few of these surgeries, and she's been fine with all of them.  I know it's scary, but I'm sure he will do just fine.  We'll be thinking about you!!!!  Lots of hugs for you!!!

  • I don't blame you for freaking at all because I would be the same way. But, as others have said, it is a minor procedure that should go perfectly fine. Gramps (Jeff's Grandpa) had a pace maker put in a couple of months ago, and if he can make it through just fine...I am telling you, anyone can!!!

  • I'd definitely be freaking out also. Best wishes to him, and let us know how it goes; it is a very standard procedure so I'm sure he'll be fine!

This!  Hope everything goes smoothly, I'd be freaking out too, but it sounds like it's pretty routine.
