What was your first car? Did you buy it, your parents or was it a hand me down?
This morning I saw a Jetta on the street and felt a bit of nostolgia for my old Jetta, the only car I bought/paid for myself.
However, my first car ever was at 1988 (and I was born in '86), Silver Volvo 240. I was mortified by it. Growing up my parents only drove Volvo and Saabs, refusing to buy an American car, and insisting that I needed a Volvo as my first car. There friends were selling a 240, so my parents had me test drive it (I cried, but looking back, it was such a blessing that my parents were able to afford to buy me car).
Here's a pic of what my first car looked like (not my actual car), Val(lorie) the Volvo:

Funnily enough, DH had his mom, then sister's hand me down Volvo wagon (although I think it was a '91). Also silver...everyone teased us in hs that we had planned to have similar cars. This is what his looked like (not his actual car):
Re: First Car (PIPs)
I knew I wanted a car when I turned 16, so I started working at 14 and my parents told me whatever I had saved they would match and put down on a car. In 1997, I got a '95 Toyota Corolla. I drove that thing until the wheels came off (quite literally!) in 2003.
This isn't my actual car, but exactly what it looked like:
This is my actual car after one hell of a night:

Ah, mine was a 1994 buick century. My dad bought it for me for my graduation present. He's in auto body so he got it real cheap. It looked pretty much like this.
Minus the rust. The passenger window wouldn't go all the way up, the tires kept going flat and the gas gauge was broken but I was so proud of that car! I almost had a saab as my first car but it was sitting at my dad's shop waiting on repair and a homeless man died of an overdose inside of it (bad neighbohood) so my dad got rid of that one!
Mine was a 1996 Honda Civic hatchback in silver:

Mine was a 1983 Plymouth Gran Fury. It was bought at an auction and had previous been a wildlife ranger's car. I hated it. BUT, at one time it had the wildlife ranger's seal on the door and you could still see like the reflection of it if the light hit it just right. So that was kind of awesome, because on the highway, everyone thought you were a cop and got out of your way.
Not my actual car:
So I drove that from 16 to 18 and then when I went to college, I traded my mom for her car, because it was newer and ran better. So then I drove a 1989 Mercury Topaz.
Also, not my car:

(Obviously not my actual car, but this was exactly what I had, same color and all
Mazda MX-3 - 1993. I loved that car. I'd probably still be driving it if my sister didn't back into and total it >:(
I bought it with my own money... however, while I was saving for that car, this is what I drove
yup. the hand-me-down mini van. for like 6 months. a very dark time in my life.
My dad was a farmer so I was able to get my farmer's license at 16 (NJ is 17) but it had to be a "farm vehicle" so my dad passed me down his baby. I absolutely loved this truck. Her name was Betsy and we had many, many good times together.
This isn't my actual truck but if you throw a few gallons of mud on this along with 33" mud tires, it certainly would resemble mine.
I was a car wh0re for about 2 years. Right after this I "borrowed" a Ford Explorer which I paid my Aunt monthly for about 3 months for, then got bored of it. I had my brother's black Jeep Wrangler for about 3 months while he was away at college, but he was able to take it with him his second semester. My parents ended up buying me a toyota corolla "sport" but after about a year and half I got bored with that too.
So finally at age 20 I purchased my first baby boo, "50" as in fifty cent. This isn't mine but black out the windows, add a spoiler and it would be the same. I had him until I hit the 100,000 mark and decided to trade while it was still worth a pretty penny.
My first car was a 1989 Grand Prix (which I got in 1997). Pic below is the same car (but not mine):
I freaking loved that car, I had to pass it down to my sister when I left for college, I was so sad!

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermHere's mine...
I learned to drive in that old truck (1981 Chevy Custom Deluxe 20)... Then after graduation, I bought this Mustang (1987 LX) from my parents. This was the day Mom got it.
1992 ford escort In dark blue.....Daddy bought it for my 17th birthday and I had it till i graduated from college....LOVED this car
I was too impatient though....
2001 ford focus....Dad bought me this as a college graduation present. (not a pip of mine) I was too hasty....as the focus doesnt have auto windows, auto locks or air conditioner....(humid rainy days in MA are AWFUL) but it had low miles and dad paid for it so i jumped at it....REGRET!!!!!
Hoping that DH and I can get me a new car soon...I've had it for 5 years and im kinda over it...and tired of sweating my summers away
Getting fit for IVF!
My first car that I bought, but ironically only drove once (illegally) was our little blue 1994 daihatzu Mira. His name was Rufus. He had a little 3 cylinder, 650cc engine
Here's Rufus after a hard day of zooming around a snowy mountain so we could go snowboarding.
Here's a picture of Rufus relaxing in the sunshine outside our apartment (the one with the bikes, satellite dish and tomato plant)
Matt and I miss him very much. He went to a scrap yard when we moved out of Japan
I had an Eagle Talon. I made the down payment and my mom made the payments while I was in school for my associates then I took over.
Not my actual car but looks just like her.

I got to drive around in the beast for a while, it was a 1965 Ford Mustang V-8, it needed LOTS of work and new mufflers/pips, BUT she Sounded MEAN!! I don't have photos of that.
My dad bought me My First car it was a 2001 Honda Civic, had to learn to drive stick tho, and she was my FIRST love!
I had her for about 3 or 4 years till, I got the bright Idea one night to hit a semi-truck.... and this is what she looked like after, still brings tears to my eyes Got both sides of her tho! it took some mad skill to hit that truck twice!
MY first and only car is a 1998 Honda CR-V. It has 197,000 miles on it and still going, though not as well as it used to. This isn't my car but it's identical to mine.
Mine was a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird Convertible LE... The back window blew out, it had a hole in the soft top and my dad drilled a hole in the passenger floor board so the water would drain out when it rained... man I miss that car
( (not my car in the pic, didn't have digital cameras when I got her)
I don't have any pics of Betty the Buick before she was totaled by some dumb@ss who hit me head on, but here is the link to my FB album of my post-accident pictures.
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=37979&id=701380532
She is the red buick, he was driving the white one.
I was handed down Betty from my mom who received her when my great grandfather passed away. I remember being so mad that I was going to drive a "boat" but that car was one sweet ride. She was a road-trippin' machine!
This is so embarassing...can't believe I'm about to share this, but my first car was...
wait for it...
a late-60's model (maybe early 70's, I don't remember)...
AMC Gremlin!
Yup, that's right. A Gremlin. They don't even make them any more, and probably for good reason. Let's just say we weren't a wealthy family. So I got my mom's hand-me-down car. I loved it, though. This is not a pic of the real thing, but it looked almost exactly like this, except for the rust around the wheel wells, and the paint had oxidized to a super-cool purplish color by the time I was driving it.
P.S. I'm not THAT old...I got my driver's license in 1990.
Thought I had lots of pics of my car. Turns out I have very little. This is Roger- 2000 Jeep Cherokee. I got him when I was 17- my dad handed him down when he went though a mid-life crisis and bought a flashy red sports car. I've had him ever since!
Here is from when we went camping this summer. lol
