I have to drive up to Boston to work tomorrow and have an irrational immense amount of anxiety about this (I hate driving to places I'm not familiar with, let alone in big cities).
I have two routes I can go.
Anyone have any insight into which of these routes would have less traffic or be the better route for one reason or another?
Remember, I live in Eastern CT.
Rt. 6 to 95 North to 93, to 90 East
or 395 to 290 East, to 90 East
Basically is it better to take 90 the majority of the way or take 95 the majority of the way and then get on 90?
The place I need to go is off Rt. 90, so either way I end up there, just trying to figure out if I pay the toll on the pike and take it almost the whole way there or if driving up 95 might be better?
ack.
Also, I have to be up there for an 11-12 meeting. Should I try to drive up to get there for 10 and hope most of the traffic has cleared by that point or drive up there really early to avoid traffic? (If so, how early?)
And PS - There's no easy way for me to take a train (which BTW would probably cause just as much anxiety since I have 0 experience on the train), and I only need to be up there for an 11 - noon meeting.
Re: Better route to Boston?
I really can't speak to the best driving route and I know you said no train but depending on where your meeting is (near train station or short cab ride away) I would seriously reconsider using the train for getting up there. I LOVE the train and find it way more relaxing then driving into Boston or any major city. You can do work, watch a movie, read a book, nap, etc.

If where you need to go is right on the pike, I would take the pike all the way in rather than worry about traffic on multiple highways. I think the toll would be worth it to not have to worry about it, it's just a straight shot on the same highway which could make you less anxious.
Also, if you want to get there for 10 I would leave at least 2 hours early. The few times I drove into Boston for work and left at 7am, I would get to the office right at 9. That is taking 95 to 93.
