Don't want to jiinx it.. dog adoption

Don't want to jiinx it because the last dog we were going to adopt didn't work out (for various reasons)... but things are moving along and looking great for us to adopt this guy. At this point, the only thing that would prevent us from getting him would be a sour meeting between him and Chloe. We don't see that as an issue because they are both super easy going and accomodating with other dogs. So... wish us luck! :)

Evan James was born 1/24/13 and matched with us 2/20/13. The LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!
  • *swoon*

he's handsome! good luck anita and joe!

  • Cute!  I love the name Chauncy.  :-)

Our boys didn't love each other right away.  The director of our rescue recommend going on a walk with them.  She said if they walk together fine then they will be fine in the end.  Try walking You--dog--dog--DH keeping the dogs between you to see how they do.

Renzo actually snapped at Boston the first time they met because Boston was very excited and wanted to play and Renzo was stressed and shy and told Boston to back off and give him his space.  That made me nervous but Renzo's foster mom said it wasn't too concerning.  They were fine from that moment on. It took them about a week to really acknowledge the other one and now they snuggle and play like they've been brothers forever!  :-)

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!

  • We met him last night with his fosters - and he climbed right up in my lap, put his head on my chest and nestled his chin under mine and gave me sweet sloppy boxer kisses... :) *swoon* We absolutely adore him. MNBR is pretty restrictive as far as rescue organizations go - the application process was insane (in a good way.) He's just a love bug... so I really hope we can bring him home soon!

Kiz - good to know that things were rough at first but mellowed out between your two boys. Chloe is the most accomodating dog ever - she will just sit patiently as her fur-cousin (Joe's brother/brother's wife's dog) destroys her toys and she's happy to share snuggle space on the couch with other dogs. She isn't possessive over us either, she's happy to let other dogs sit on our laps/be loved by us. She's pretty passive too - when dogs wrestle she's happy to be on the bottom.. so I really don't see an issue.. but it's reassuring to know that even if there are initial issues, they can be overcome with patience and time.

He's actually about 5 pounds lighter than Chloe. He's got shorter legs, but he's wider/stockier than Chloe - so as they both grow and fill in a little more (Chloe is 1, Chauncy is estimated to be about 1) it'll be interesting to see if he passes Chloe up in weight.

They don't really know his history - he turned up in a shelter in Indiana with zero information - it said owner surrender but had zero details. I can't understand why someone would surrender him - he is so gentle and loving. He doesn't know any commands though - so we'll have to get him in obedience ASAP. He isn't fond of being kenneled up, at least not when the fosters are in the room, so we'll have to work though that too. I'm excited though... :)
