Got our assignment re: election day!
We'll be working at the polls in Fredericksburg, VA! I've only been there one time, for a church gig (e.g. paid singer). It's about an hour south of DC, but my, you can tell you're out of the city.
I'm so excited! Originally, they assigned me to Philadelphia and hubz to Arlington, VA. This is much better
So, if yo'ure planning to intimidate voters in Fredericksburg, watch out! I'll have my eye on you...
Re: Got our assignment re: election day!
Very cool!
Definitely! We went to training last night, and it was very interesting. This is a program of the Democratic party developed after the 2000 election called Promote the Vote. It's to ensure that people trying to vote are able to vote. It exists in several states and is working in conjunction with the Obama campaign.
We are already having problems in Virginia. Yesterday, a mailer went out in Tidewater, VA. It was designed to look like an official communication from the board of elections. It said that Republicans are to vote on Nov 4; Democrats are to vote Nov 5.
So. It's looking out for things like that. Helping voters who come to the wrong precinct locate the correct precinct. Alerting someone if the lines are over a certain threshold, if they are low on ballots (in paper ballot precincts), helping those who need accomodations, etc, looking out for irregularities... It should be exciting!
