Creative Minds Come In!

H & I are going to an 80's night tomorrow night.  We need to dress the part, and neither of us can really think of anything that will stand out to wear.  I did this last year and wore a red skirt, leg warmers, purple tights, and a multi-colored paisley shirt, put some 80's style barrettes in my hair and it looked great.

I don't want to wear a skirt/dress b/c its still pretty chilly here and I also don't want to wear the same outfit over again (the tights and leg warmers I don't mind, and I don't think I could fit back in that skirt if I wanted to anyway!) so I'm looking for some suggestions on what to look for.  H also needs some ideas and we're just drawing a blank.  I thought about jeans for me (I will try to find acid wash if possible) and doing the french cuff at the bottom but that's about as far as I have gotten.

FWIW, we plan on getting whatever we can at the thrift store since its not something we will wear again.  Any ideas would be great.  We don't care if we look silly; that's kinda the point.  TIA!

  • Men's styles in the 80s varied so much, but I can think of 3 general looks.  One, jeans, a button down (buttoned all the way up), and a sports coat.  Two, spandex leggings with ripped muscle shirtsor vest (ala hair band).  Three, dorky athletic look.  Here's some photo inspiration.

  • I've been googling some stuff for both men and women and I had no idea how ridiculous our attire used to be back then!  I was def all into the 80's wear; I did the acid wash french cuff jeans, those socks that were sorta like tube socks that you scrunched down until it looked like little ruffles, the two part bang like this...

I was also going to stop by our local mall b/c they have a store that sells that jewelry from the 80's like the rubber/plastic bracelets, the super long dangly earrings, etc. and some of that stuff since its only $1.

  • Scruchies in obnoxious neon colors, side pony tails, T-shirts knotted at the side or button down front flaps knotted, crimped hair, bangle bracelets. (Dh's cousin got a crimping iron for christmas.  I just about died)

Guys - jean jackets!!   Boat neck shirts, acid wash jeans, high tops, flannel shirts, polo style shirts, lol - that three step tiered side burn thingy

ugh - the 80s were so ugly!!

  • Don't forget make up!  People always forget about that at 80's parties.  If you want to go really crazy, go to You Tube and search for Jem Make Up there are a few tutorials.  Post pictures after the party!!  Please?

I'm going to see what I can come up w/ for my makeup.  I only have 3 color combos that I use regularly and I hate to buy makeup I know will just get thrown away.

I have never posted pics on here but I will def try and remember to make sure to take some of each of us and then have someone help me post them.

  • Can you go as marty McFly and his girlfriend Jennifer parker from Back to the Future?  Brown shoulder length hair (pin underneath) with pink jeans (colored), white long sleeve top and a jean tank top that buttons down (but where it open).  And a basic purse across the front and high top sneakers (like reeboks).  Husband could wear acid jeans with high tops, a plaid shirt, and an orange "safety" vest.  Just a thought......

This would be an awesome idea, but in the interest of time it won't work for this particular occasion.  I'm def keeping that idea on the back burner the next time I need to do this, though!

I would use Can't Buy Me Love (or the Breakfast Club or 16 Candles or Pretty in Pink or...yeah, the list keeps going) for inspiration. Patrick Dempsey's outfit in this pic would be easy for your H to replicate.

I LOVE that movie! Yes  Make sure you do the african tribal dance as well. Stick out tongue

  • I love all things 80s. Well...not ALL things.  More specifically - the movies and music.

There's an 80s cover band in the area and everyone dresses the part at their shows.  If you go to their site and check out the pictures - you might get more inspiration since it's actual people dressed up.

  • Okay ladies, we have made our decisions, got our outfits, and we will be taking pictures tonight.  I will try and post them this week/end to show everyone what we ended up going with.

This is fun!  Albeit, yes a bit disturbing!  hehe

And I love can't buy me love.  How the hell did I not know that was Patrick Dempsey, though?  I think I kinda did, but it didn't really dawn on me until you guys said something.
