fishnets...skanky or sassy?

So...I have a formal dinner to go to. I have a black cocktail dress and peep toe patent heels. I also am PASTY ASS WHITE. I do not do so well w/any fake tanning sutff, and fake-n-baken is not an option. So my question becomes do I own the Frosty the Snowman look, or try to switch it up a bit.

here is what the dress/shoes resemble...sorry it is not a link, it would not let me. OPINIONS PLEASE!!!

Re: fishnets...skanky or sassy?

  • I love your dress and the shoes! But I think fishnets are seriously a no-go for something formal.  (or anytime except Halloween, really, but that might be just me!)

I just rock my whiteness.  I have used that lotion that adds a tan super-gradually before, it has a nice bit of sparkle.  Because I am not to be trusted with real self-tanner.

  • Cute dress and shoes...I would rock the whiteness! Add red fingers and toes and a rose in your hair!

I do think fishnets can sometimes be pulled off but I don't know if I'd do them with that dress...

  • Me + self tanning agents= Ooompa Loompa status, lol. So NOT good!! I am leaning towards bare legs myself. Wish I was more fashion savey!
  • I vote no on the fishnets, especially for a formal dinner. If you want to cover up I would go with black stockings or tights.

  • The fishnets were not even a thought, until I started googling  :)

Probably should just stay with my own boring first instinct. PS...the nails are french manicured and the toes are a shimmery light silver. Was going to do red, but got a gel manicure and wanted something that I would not get sick of in a week. Maybe I should have done red toes though...

  • As a fellow pasty pale chick, I'd just embrace the whiteness.  However, if you really want to have something covering your legs, what about a plum-colored pair of tights?

Something I've been seeing in a few fashion blogs is layering a textured tight (like fishnets, but usually something with a more subtle pattern) over a colored tight.  Not sure if it would work in this situation (unless you went with dark stockings as the under color - but I think that would be too much head-to-toe black).  Just something to consider though!

  • I would just wear black tights.  I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and I wore a black skirt with black tights.  Looked fine.

  • Sooby-

Did you do an open/closed toe shoe?My shoes are peep toe and that is what is throwing me for a loop.

  • So I was totally going to answer FISHNETS all the way, but then I saw your dress and I think fishnets would make it more costume-y looking. I would do bare legs or black tights with this dress. If you had a more fitted/plain bottom of the dress I would say do a pattern tights or small fishnets :)

  • I wore closed.  But, if they're only peep toes I don't see a problem with it.  If they were open than yeah, no go!

  • I was going to say textured nylons or sheer black..I think with the sheerness of the fabric on the dress tights would be too heavy looking...Just my opinion...

  • Embrace the whiteness!  LOL!

  • I think people do it, but tights with peep toes make me cringe when I see it.

  • It's the peep toes that throw me too..... I have to say embrace the whiteness if the shoes are peep toe!
