Rusty and I are in the market for new living room furniture. We've found a great leather reclining sectional for less than $3000. We both love it and have been back to look at it twice. We went tonight to make the purchase & got home from the store...empty handed. We were speaking to the sales rep and we were about to start the paperwork until he told us that it wouldn't be here until early to mid-April since it's such a popular piece and since they don't have it in stock. Rusty wasn't really happy about that, and then the sales rep mentioned that in order to ensure that it would be here by April we would have to pay upfront otherwise it could be longer. Rusty refused and walked out. I walked out and met him nd he went off on me for wanting to go ahead with it. It's an awesome deal and from what I've heard it's normal to wait that long and have to pay. He said he doesn't want to pay so much money and not get it in the long run. I can understand that, but he isn't talking to me right now because he feels like I'm "not supporting him".
Is it normal to pay upfront and wait that long??
Re: fussing about furniture
We paid upfront for our nice loveseat, and it took 8-10 weeks to be made and delivered.
Our la-z-boy we paid up front, and waited a few weeks before it was delivered also. Not as long because they had it in the warehouse. Whereas our loveseat we picked a "special" color and it had to be made to order.

My best friend had to do that for a crib. The crib was very expensive and beautiful. It needed 8 weeks to come in.
after 7 months, and phone calls of week after week after week, I took over the calls, and started to get into demands and threats, since she was a wreck about the whole thing, as her baby was already BORN at this point.
It eventually came in.
After 8 months.
Aaaaand it was damaged.
I'm skeptical of high end products and up front payment where I'm not REALLY familiar with the outfit and their reputation to follow up and follow through on things.
So, buyer beware, but you have to figure out as a couple what your risk tolerance is.
You have to ask yourself:
If I have to wait as long for a $3000 couch as i did for a $3000 set of wedding pictures, am I going to be okay with that?
I'm not sure, but I know I wouldn't be happy about waiting. But if I loved it, I'd wait.
I bought a 4 piece living room set right before we got married. It's tan microfiber and it came with a sofa, loveseat, giant chair (seats 1 and a half) and ottoman.
But I bought it at a going out of business sale for way cheap and it was delivered a week later. And I didn't even know I was getting the sofa, I actually thought they accidentally gave it to us so I called to let them know and ended up feeling like an idiot!
Did you ever get your photos???
Yes typically it does take some time to get furniture shipped to you and yes you have to pay it upfront. Is the place your wanting to buy it from a reputable place? If it is you should be safe just keep the receipt and when you buy it make them garentee a delivery date.
If you pay upfront, you can get your money back if they don't deliver it within the time that they say they will -- unless this is a shady place that you think will close down and run away or declare bankruptcy before the couch arrives?
Kathy's experience sounds terrible, but some crib manufacturers are notorious for doing that.
This.
Our sectional which was also very popular was about 2900, we did a payment plan (interest free for 2 years and all that jazz), it was originally 3500 but we waited for a sale and had it within 3 weeks. Just food for thought.
