Have you tried an IUD?

What's your experience been with it? Good? Bad? In between? I've been thinking about it but don't know anybody who's tried one before.

Thanks!

Re: Have you tried an IUD?

  • I had Mirena. I have never had any children, so the process was pretty painful for me, though it only lasted like 15 minutes. I spent the next two days laying down with reeeally bad cramps and bleeding but after that things were super awesome for a couple of years. Then randomly I started experiencing bad cramps during my period, like in a fetal position stabbing pains kind. I ended up having it taken out. Now I have the Implanon, which for me has been really awful and I'm having it taken out in a few weeks. Guess I just can't win! LOL

I think Mirena is pretty awesome and definitely something you should consider. I would highly recommend it based on my experience.

  • I had the paraguard put in after my daughter was born.  I cramped for a couple days, but nothing too horrible.  My experience with it was good up until about 2 months ago when I found out I was pregnant!  So while IUDs have worked for many, many of my friends...it didnt work on me!  I dont think I would use one again.  Just my 2 cents.
  • I've had the paragard for 2 1/2 yrs and love it. I have never had kids and although insertion was a bit rough it wasn't all THAT bad. I had little cramps afterwards but by the next morning I was fine. My periods are no longer than when I was on bcp, bleeding is heavy for 2 days then normal, cramps are bad for 1 day then none at all. All in all I love it and if dh wasn't getting vasectomy I'd get another one when this one expires.
