Non-Clicky Poll: What do you do for your birthday?

My birthday is Tuesday and DH keeps asking me what I want to do but I can't make up my mind. I have to work Wednesday so I don't really want to be out too late. I'm thinking just dinner at Kan Ki or Maggiano's and then call it a night but I can't decide whether to invite friends or just go with DH. It always seems to turn into a big logistical hassle, plus I feel bad asking people to go out and spend the money. It's only my 26th so I don't feel like it's really worth making a big deal over.

So I was wondering, what do you guys do for your and/or DH's birthdays? Dinner? Drinks? Both? A party? Absolutely nothing? Other?

Re: Non-Clicky Poll: What do you do for your birthday?

  • last year was my 25th, so i had a party, it wasn't anything huge. this year i am just planning dinner out with DH and a quiet date night. for DH's birthday, we do our fantasy football draft party every year. i think unless it's a major birthday, i'm at the point where dinner out with DH or family or close friends is fine for me. i don't need a big celebration. just some chocolate cake :)

  • We usually have a family party on a weekend, & a separate dinner for the two of us. Last year LB & I were both off, so we bar hopped at Jax Beach on a random Tuesday.

  • I love birthday's, so we have always done something with friends and family (big party, Howl at the Moon, beach, etc) but this year, I guess it will be low key since we are far away from family and most of my friends. We were thinking of going to Bike Week since my bday is the last weekend of it. Who knows!

For H's bday, we try to plan a trip since it's in Sept. Last year we went over to Cedar Key and had a nice weekend. This year we are thinking Key West.

  • We typically go to Disney for his because his northern friends all congregate there at that time anyway. I don't really like to do anything for mine because it just  becomes all about what mom wants to do. Last year she asked a dozen times if I was going to pick up an ice cream cake for myself because that's what they all like.
  • I usually go out dinner with DH

I also get together with a group of girlfriends for lunch and someother activity. This year we went and painted pottery. For our other girlfriends birthday we went to Yes You Canvas. We have also gone kayaking.

  • I much prefer a quiet dinner with DH, especially if it's a work night. My family will usually try to get together the weekend before or after for a meal to celebrate with cake. Going out to a bar with some friends will get thrown in as part of the celebration too but it's not really different from any other weekend.

  • We also do the family thing. We're going to be at my grandparents' house in Palm Coast on Saturday to celebrate my dad's birthday and mine early. I'm thinking I'll just stick to dinner with DH and then maybe do lunch with some girlfriends the next weekend.

  • Dinner and drinks out with DH.  I'm not a huge birthday person and feel silly throwing a party for myself or inviting people to celebrate meeeeeeeee!

My family's two hours away, so we usually see them for dinner at some point during the month of my birthday but never the day of or anything.

  • We're really boring and rarely do anything for birthdays besides a special dinner at home and some dessert. Last year was DH's 40th, and I joke that I gave him a baby, and even let him have it early (Jonathan was born 2 days before his bday, we went home on his bday).

This year is my 30th, and we really don't have anything planned. I don't have any really close family nearby other than my sister in St. Augustine, and I'm the same way as LB about doing a party "to celebrate meeeeeeeee!" It falls on a Wed anyway, and DH has a class for work Tues and Wed, which sucks.

On a side note, my birthday was the first date that our bank had available for closing, and I was tempted to take it and just get a POA for DH, so that I could get a house for my birthday.

  • We usually do a dinner with the family and dinner/drinks with friends.
  • Last year my 26th birthday was a Saturday. I didn't want to ask people to go out and spend money at a restaurant so H and I invited my friends over to our house. We ordered a sub platter from Firehouse and it was BYOB. a few friends came over and we just sat around and chatted, watched tv and had a very casual evening. It was a lot of fun.

  • Dinner by ourselves or with family.  If we're having dinner with my family to celebrate, we're probably eating a home cooked meal at my parent's house.  If we're celebrating with DH's dad, we're going out to dinner, usually for sushi.

    And Happy Early Birthday!
