Re: UO Thursday
I'm not sure if this is a UO or vent or what...
But this country has GOT to find a way to sustain itself on something other than oil/gas. This whole Libya thing raising the price of oil - and rumblings of $5/gal. gas in the near future - is ridiculous. I'm not as educated on this topic as I feel like I should be, so I'm reading up on more stories about it...but I just think we need to jump off our oil dependence ASAP.
I get irritated when people are unaware of situations such as those in Libya, Yemen, Bahrain and other countries currently involved in some type of civil unrest due to totalitarian rule. I was asked the other day (through facebook message) "hey, um. Where is Libya?"
Now, granted I am happy they were brave to ask that question, I am not upset that they didn't know its location. My anger came in when I noticed that most of their statuses/updates/wall posts usually encompass some type of "reality" house wives show.
I am SO mad at both Democrats and Republicans for continually treating Medicare, Social Security, and defense as some sort of sacred cows that can't be touched in the budget, then squabbling over the dregs that remain while simultaneously maintaining the lowest tax rates since the 1950s.
It's like when someone posts their budget on MM and says, "Um, yeah, so my DH and I earn $30k/year total and our mortgage is $1800/month and we owe car payments of $750/month and we're drowning in credit card debt. What should we do?" and after talking to them, you find out that all they're willing to do is, "reduce cable and cell phones."
Well, "reduce cable and cell phones" is all well and good and should be done BUT you also need to get rid of a car (or two) downsize on the house, AND earn more money
Maybe not an unpopular opinion, but the political nature of pretty and amanjay reminded me. I went on a date last night. Talked about Obama and DOMA. He didn't know what any of it was about. I judged.
I roll my eyes at MM a lot. For the most part, there is some good advice but it feels like a broken record over and over again. A few weeks ago, someone posted their budget - net of nearly $100k, I think, they were saving $30k a year. Poster said he/she "felt broke" and all MM could do was worry about how much the chick was spending eating out and how much their cable bill was. Um, I don't know - how about someone mentioning that perhaps they are saving TOO MUCH?!? I was just appalled they were nitpicking apart this poor girl's spending but no one bothered to say - "Hey lady! You are netting $100k and saving $30k - live a little. You are saving too much!!!"
Which brings me to my next soapbox - when critiquing budget, they constantly criticize cell phone and cable. Yet, a few months ago, a poster mentioned she had driven by some section 8 housing and noticed that nearly every apartment had a satellite for cable and that made her appalled. Then, the other posters jumped all over her about how people who are "poor" should be allowed to have cable too and she needs to get her nose out of the air yada yada - yet criticized someone with a net of one hundered fvcking thousand dollars for her cable bill (which was $150 a month). WTF?
This also may not be an UO, but whatevs, I feel like sharing.
I make a point not to watch Fox News and particularly Bill O'Reilly. He makes my blood boil. I was at the gym yesterday and the treadmill I was on was the one directly in front of the TV that is always on Fox News. I can usually avoid it, but yesterday, BAM, right there.
Anyway, I'm just running and watching/reading the captions. The way Bill O'Reilly and his people phrase things is just incendiary. I almost threw my water bottle at the screen. One gem I remember: "First, Michelle Obama wants to tell you what to eat, now she wants to stop your kids from having a Facebook account."
He's a douche.
He is a douche. But Beck takes the freaking cake. If you watch Beck and use him as a source I tend to give you the major sideeye.
While on topic, how is the fact that Mrs. Obama attempting to make our kids healthier a BAD thing? Also, kids don't need Facebook, their friends are with them at school all day.
He he he he he.
Someone you work with writes their name "Slutty McSlutterson, MBA" - it makes me giggle!
I'm butting in... But I often refer to my best guy friend as "Slutty McSlutterTon" (maybe that's the masculine form? haha). I also call him "Tits McGee" but for no real reason... Half of my motivation to watch Glee is to see what new little gem Santana uses. ::Sigh:: I wish my pithy dialogue had more depth.
I am dying over here - Tits McGee would definitely be a better name for the person I was refering to! ha!
I want to send an email to Tits McGee and check out her sig line myself. Frankly, I would rather broadcast "CPA" rather than "MBA". I'm guessing she probably does both though knowing her.
Tits McGee, CPA, MBA... and what three letters would you use to describe someone who might be highly educated yet makes very poor moral choices?
