Sadlebred - bike advice?

I promise I won't go buy from Wa!mart!

I don't know anything about bikes and me and my BFF want to buy a decent bike to ride around the city. We don't want anything fancy but really don't want to go to Wa!mart either. Do you have any suggestions on where we should go and what we should look for?

Re: Sadlebred - bike advice?

  • Not Sadlebred here, but I'm a biker too :)   I love Ansley Cycling, the folks there are super helpful!
  • Sduncan...that's the Ansley location of Atlanta Cycling. :) I know the owner very well and ride with him regularly.

My favorite shops are: Peachtree Bikes in Buckhead, Atlanta Cycling at Ansley or Vinings, Smyrna Bicycles in Smyrna, Free Flite in Marietta, Cycleworks (various locations). Go to any of them, tell them Trish from Southeastern Cycling sent you. They know me. If you are on the south side, Atlanta Trek in Ptree City is good but only carries Trek.

My bio has a TON of bike buying advice. I'll start by saying that a "good" bike will start at about $300. Bikes often come with free tune ups for a year. Don't forget to put some $$ aside for padded cycling shorts (your girlie parts will thank you) and a helmet. The bike shops can help you figure out what kind of bike you need. I'd recommend a "flat bar road bike" if you are doing city riding. Hybrids suck and really have no purpose unless you are old or are pulling kids around in a trailer in the neighborhood.

LMK if you have any more questions.

  • I go to Performance Bikes in Alpharetta as well as Roswell Bikes. Both have been super helpful to a newb like me.

  • Thanks for all the advice! So helpful!
