I bombed a test today :(

I did horrible on an exam today. It brought be down from an 89 to an 84%, which is a C for our program. It's not a B until 85%

I am so disappointed in myself! I knew missing class last would would kill me. (My mom is OOT because my aunt with cancer is very bad off and in the ICU. There was nobody here to watch Ryan so I had to miss class)

I really wanted to go into the final (Tuesday) with a B.

And several people did so poorly that it brought them below 80% (which is failing) or they were already doing bad and needed a better grade to boost them up. 2 really close friends aren't even taking the final, they're dropping the program. Dropping is seen as "better" than failing because it saves your GPA.

I just need a hug today.

ETA: I'm not making excuses, I'm just saying I'm the kind of person that needs to hear info in lecture form or I don't retain it.

  • Jackie!!! Do NOT even think about dropping the program, young lady! I know it stinks to fail a test, but please remember that ONE test isn't going to fail you out. Take all of your grades and come up with a score thus far. From there you can figure out what you need on the final. Last semester was hard as crap...I failed two and had to make a 75 on the final to make a 75 in the class (below 75 is failing here). I studied by myself and later with two groups and made an 80. I passed and that's all that matters. I know you want the best, but sometimes you have to sacrifice what you want or what you view as perfection in nursing school. C=nurse! You CAN do this. Do not freak out. It is very much do-able. Have faith in yourself and let it be even more motivation to rock on the final. You've got this, girl! Let me know if you need any help. What all was covered this semester? Maybe I can give some pointers. I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!

Thanks girl. I am just feeling so down about it. We've covered legal stuff, diabetes, renal system, hematologic system, respiratory, cardiac, and vascular. All probems, diagnoses, meds and nursing responsibilites. UGH! I KNOW I can do this! I'm so glad I took tomorrow off work!

  • Wow, yall are on such a different schedule from us! We learned legal aspects during the first semester, diabetes in the second, a little respiratory and vascular in the third, & hematologic and cardiac during the fourth semester. This semester we've covered more cardiac (blocks, defects, etc) and respiratory (vents, ARDS, etc) and now we're about to test on neuro alterations (strokes, ^ ICP, seizures, etc). Sooo maybe message me on FB and we'll talk more about what aspects of each subject you've really covered if you'd like.

  • That sucks.  I'll be in your shoes next weekend.

I plan on bombing my final for my current class on March 5th.

I know, it seems odd to be planning ahead like that.

This class has had sooooooo much work in it, i haven't really done the reading in weeks.

The good news is that the final is 25% of my grade, and i've got A's across the board for the other 75%, so as long as  I get north of a 50, I should still get a B.   I'm hopeful for a little higher, but we'll see.

I do plan on getting into some studying this weekend. My 40 page term paper is due February 28th (and we only started the class on January 18th!) and I got 95% of it done last weekend, so I should have some space to study this weekend and next week.

     You'll get'em next time!  (and I will, too! :-)  )
