s/o Baby Carriers

Now I have baby carrier fever (sort of like car fever but not).

I really really really like the Beco Gemini! We have the Bjorn but I didn't realize it isn't good for babe's hips and groin. And I can't imagine how uncomfortable that will be in the summer with tank tops.

I was also thinking about a Maya sling.

Re: s/o Baby Carriers

  • I'm totally with you on the Gemini! After it was mentioned (by Carly, I think???) in the last thread, I checked it out and have been lusting after it. I'm thinking since we're getting a barely used 2nd hand Bjorn this wknd, I'm going to splurge on the Gemini in a bit.

  • I LOVE my Gemini! It does say to limit the amount of time wearing baby in the facing out position because of the hip/groin issues, but I love that the base is adjustable so you can make it wider and take the pressure off when wearing the baby in other holds (unlike the Bjorn). Now I just need to get Lily to enjoy the other holds :P

  • Yeah, so I was reading and people are saying that you shouldn't have a child facing outward. And at first I thought...well, that makes my decision...I will get the Ergo. But I feel like Abe enjoys facing out and I would like to at least have the option to do that for a short walk. So I think the Beco it is...more options!

MIT - is it easy to get Lily in and out of?

  • Oh, and what about the "sleeping hood"? I've read good and bad. Have you used it with Lily?
  • Yes, I find the Beco easier to put on than the Ergo. I like how the straps wrap around - it's super easy to put on.

IDK, I saw those warning about having the baby face out, but I couldn't really find any warnings from people other than moms/message boards/companies like Ergo. Nothing from doctors or anything scientific, so I figured it can't be that bad if Lily is facing outward for a couple 30 minute sessions a day. It's not like she's in it all day. That was my thought process, but I totally understand if someone wouldn't want to take the risk!

  • Because my baby planning has reached a stage bordering on obsession, I've been following along and checking out sites.

The Gemini doesn't mention having an infant insert (like the Butterfly)-- does this mean you can't use the Gemini for infants? And I notice the Beco doesn't have the extra chest strap like the Ergo (the strap that goes between the shoulder straps)... MIT, do you find you don't need that with the Beco?

  • We went from a Moby to an Ergo to a Maya sling (I love that sling, btw, can't live without it!) and I still find myself eyeing carriers.  Like I need anymore :)  I really want a Boba, I think, I love the stirrups lol.

I'm pretty sure it has the head support that snaps up and down like the Bjorn does (instead of an infant insert) so you can use it for infants. And the Gemini does have the chest strap you are talking about, but you only use it in the back-carry position. This is why I find the Gemini easier to put on compared to the Ergo - when front-carrying the Gemini's shoulder straps cross in the back, so the strap isn't necessary. I had the hardest time fasting that back strap in the Ergo - I felt like I needed a triple jointed elbow or something :P
