baby gift help

One of my husbands and my good friends is having their baby next month.  The shower is next weekend and I want to get them a gift.  They have a lot of stuff on their registry and I am not sure what to get them. For all the new mothers out there what did you find the most helpful? TIA

Re: baby gift help

  • The only thing I'm a mother to are our cats, but every shower I've ever been to a big hit is always Sophie the Giraffe.

  • I would not make it without Preston's boppy pillow or his play mat.

  • My SIL was most greatful for diapers and wipes. Sounds silly, but it's expensive.

I also gave both SIL's glo worms for the girls when they were born. Both of my nieces still carry them around to this day.

    This was my SIL's favorite!

  • Now, these are not necessarily the MOST practical ones but they make for nice gifts.

I've given this Sleep Sheep many times and the moms have always raved about it afterwards (highly recommended by lots of bumpies too). If they don't have this particular one on the registry, any white noise maker is supposed to be really great to help baby sleep.

If you prefer to go off-registry, this nursing bracelet has also come highly recommended to me, and I plan to get one for myself if no one gifts me one (which I doubt anyone would because it's on Etsy). It's a tool to help you remember when you last fed the baby, which I'm told is a pretty big deal when you're sleep deprived and overwhelmed. This is one example but search "nursing reminder bracelet" on Etsy and there are lots of styles and colours.

  • I've heard the boppy pillow is a must if she plans to breastfeed, or swaddle blankets if she registered for them. Also bouncers and swings seem to be mom's saving grace when nothing else will soothe a crying baby. I think if you get her anything from the registry she will be happy with it.

  • Diaper cakes are practical and cute. I loved getting diapers and bottles and things like that so this would be a great gift.

I have also had my sister as well as several other friends say how annoying it is to have to unroll the diapers when you are sleep deprived and changing a diaper in the middle of the night! Haha! I do love the idea of them, but most of the time in my area, the diaper cake is the hostess gift and it would be considered bad form to show up with one. I know you can sew! I can email you several tutorials to easy projects!

I got a few diaper cakes and I loved them. They were pratical and always had cute things tied to them. Of course I unrolled the diapers long before I needed to use them, but they were a cute pratical gift. I loved getting diapers. Preston is 5 months old and I still haven't had to buy diapers.

They are using cloth diapers!  I would LOVE patterns of things to make.  They are having a boy.  I also forget to mention that I have to ship it. They live a few states away.

  • I bought my preggo friend a moby wrap after hearing one of my co-workers go on and on about it and she is hooked now. It's much more comfortable than carting around a baby carrier and looks much nicer than the baby backpacks that can look like hiking gear!

I loved having the diapers rolled up. They saved so much room in the diaper bag. I suppose it would work the same with cloth diapers, I've never used them but I can't imagine it would be much different.
